I'm newly sly but always kept my hair very short. My advice is don't go by the photoshop picture. Buzz your hair with a 2 or 3. If you want shorter buzz it shorter but take some time to get used to it if you need to, then go down the next level. Once you are shaving with no gaurd if you feel good about it, take the razor to it! But the best advice I can give as a new member of this community is to read and post, there are a lot of wise men here that will be more than willing to hel you through this journey!
I don't know what those "2 or 3" numbers mean, but once I asked my barber to give me a buzzcut after taking advice from here, and he let me know there was "areas" (I wouldn't really call them spots, maybe "lines") with no hair even at the top of my head that would show with a buzzcut. Is there a different kind of buzzut?

Is there a different kind of buzzut? The numbers refer to the length the guide cuts the hair at, for Wahl clippers each number equals 1/8th inch so a 4 is 1/2 inch, a 2 is a 1/4 inch, and so forth. You can get guides for Wahl up to about 12 I believe. But, if you have "areas" with no hair your mpb may be more advanced than you realize and it may be time to go straight to sly--then it's all nice and even .
