I fought with the same decision as you. I've been losing my hair for 15 years but never wanted to shave it. I was concerned what others would think. I actually read too much into that. One day I looked at the back of my head and saw what SaintC referred to as a bozo ring. At that point I had to shave the dome. When I finally did it, I felt free. It felt different, in a good way.
The first couple of times I went out in public, I was conscious of others reactions. I really didn't notice any one staring but what I did notice was there are actually alot of sly guys. Never really noticed before.
My co-workers say I look better sly than with the bozo ring. It's been a couple of weeks for me and I'm completely at ease.
The way I now feel is if someone doesn't like it, they can KMA!

Going to a shaved head will be an easy move for you.
You look good with the tight buzz. You'll enjoy being truly bald.

You're this close and look good with the short buzz. You'll look and feel great going full sly. So you really want to wait until Christmas?

The buzzcut is a good start....but I have a feeling you're going to go all the way sooner rather than later!

Bit of an update, so i took the plunge today, I found some new razors in the cupboard and decided to do it

Bit of blood pissing out, but not a bad effort for a first timer, i could have done better with some better razors these were cheap 2 blades.
Still on the fence, my head is a bit lumpy but not much can be done about that... I guess it is what it is, if this was the worse that happens to me, then, I'm doing pretty good.

You look great with a chrome dome. Keep it slick! Regarding cuts and bleeding, those are going to happen ... take your time shaving and be extra careful going around curves, especially around the ears. The bad/good news is that the head has the most blood flowing in it per unit area because it needs to send so much to the brain. The bad news is that minor cuts on the head bleed more than elsewhere. The good news is that they heal faster. Put cold water on the cut and periodically dab it with tissue.

If you can get hold of a styptic pencil (ask your local chemist) it'll stop the bleeding pretty much straight away. Just wet the end of it and rub it on the cut. Stings like merry hell, but works a treat.

The styptic pencil works great! Fast as stated.
