I used to be quite interested in radio communications, have had several wide band receivers & scanners over the years. Still have an Icom PCR1000 & a Yaesu VR-120 that I listen to occasionally. I considered getting my ham ticket a few times, but just never seemed to have the free time to go do it.
Bob Parnass developed computer software for the VR120, I helped test it out. Earned me a mention in his Monitoring Times column a few years ago.

Getting a Ham license is much easier today. Sounds like you would fit right in!
