Country music (totally off topic)
« on: September 29, 2011, 02:23:24 PM »
I don't know a single thing about country music, apart from the fact I kinda like the sound of it :o

I'd like to download some country music but can any of you give me any tips on popular contemporary singers? I'm not interested in people like Dolly Parton or Betty cline or whatever her name is

Is Lady Antebellum considered 'country'? What about the bald guy with the Stetson? I can't remember his name :o or the girl who won American idol. Are any of them any good?

I'm in a pub and I've had two pints of rather strong beer so apologies if I sound demented.

I don't know much about country music either so I can't help you there. One question though.....how can something in Various Non-Bald Discussions\General Discussion be "(totally off topic)." This section by definition is for the off topic stuff  :*))
Life has three aspects: Paradox, Humor, and Change.

Paradox: Life is a mystery; don't waste time figuring it out.
Humor: Keep a sense of humor, especially about yourself. It is a strength beyond all measure
Change: Know that nothing stays the same.

Patsy Cline.    :x!

Yes, they're all considered country in the very loosest, most watered down sense of the word.  I'm assuming the bald guy in a Stetson you're referring to is Kenny Chesney?  There are a lot of Stetsons in country music that cover up bald heads.

As for whether any of them are any good, that's a matter of opinion but in all three cases  I'd have to say no.

Dude... taht crap isn't country music. It's what is paraded around as country music but it's really just modern day "Pop" music.

Real country music died long ago for the most part..... Waylon, Willie, Merle Haggard, Johny Cash.... that was country music.

Alan Jackson and George Strait (two REAL country music stars) explain it best in this great song:

"What contemptible scoundrel stole the cork from my lunch?" W.C. Fields

For the Sly guy with a stetson its more than likely either Kenny Chesney or Keith Anderson. Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift, Rascall Flatts, those are all pop. Alot of the 'raw' country or 'country on the edge' is real. I still like the old country like Hank Sr. Even bluegrass is way better than alot of the 'country' these days

Olivia-Newton John

/runs-for-cover

Just kidding!  8)

For the yunguns: back in the 70's, before she became a rock slut, ONJ was pumping out some country-esque ballads under the guise of "country music" and hard-core country fans were up in arms, claiming she wasn't really country, and worse, was an Aussie!

Olivia-Newton John

:o :o

She was born in the UK, but she became Australianesque...so she's a British Australianesque ex-Countryesque rock slut :o

And thanks guys, thats all very helpful. Actually I think the bald guy with the stetson I was referring to is Garth someone-or-other. Im not sure he's actually bald, but he looks like he should be. I'll google him in a minute. I've never heard of Kenny Chesney

I dont want anything too heavy..."my woman dun left me, I live in a trailer, I had Jack Daniels for breakfast" doesnt do much for me. So maybe its the countryfied pop I'm looking for. Dunno, I need to research more :D
