Speaking of country music, while I was out shopping today, I went in to HMV (music store) to see if I could find a Garth whateverhisnameis CD, seeing as I cant download one.

"Who?" said the guy at the information desk

"You know, the country singer with the big hat"

"I dont know who that is" said he. "Let me ask someone"

He returned 2 minutes later

"Sorry mate, we dont sell country music CD's, apart from a few Dolly Parton ones"

"Why not?"

"Probably because nobody buys it"

"Oh"

So I left, feeling a little embarrassed for even asking about my friend Garth. :(

The search for Garth continues...

I have all of Garth Brooks cd's. I know a few years back he only sold his new cd collection at Walmart. Maybe try Walmart.com for downloads as well.

Shame :( They used to have a good collection of stuff, but I think they were told off by the music industry for allowing Eurotrash types like me to download from their site. Maybe that had something to do with it.

I only downloaded from Walmart once, to get something that wasn't available anywhere else.  Here's the email I got from them when they discontinued their MP3 service:

Dear Walmart Shopper,

As a valued music download customer at Walmart.com, we're writing to inform you that we'll no longer offer this service as of August 29, 2011.

You will still be able to enjoy the digital music you purchased and downloaded from Walmart.com. Your complete purchase history and the ability to authorize/deauthorize any DRM-protected WMA files you may have purchased is currently available until August 29 at http://mp3.walmart.com and, after we close the service, will be available again beginning September 12. Any MP3 files you purchased from Walmart can be moved to multiple new computers, as usual.

If you have credit left on an MP3 Music Gift Card that you've used in the past, we will send a Walmart eGift Card of equal value to this email address automatically. No action is required on your part to receive this eGift card, which will be sent to you by September 12.

If you have an MP3 Music Gift Card that you haven't used, we will provide you a chance to convert them. Please visit http://mp3.walmart.com on or after September 12 to redeem your current gift card for a Walmart.com eGift Card of equal value, which can be used as cash to purchase any available items from Walmart.com.

For more information about how to use the music files you've purchased, or to ask any other questions about this service, please contact our customer service team at: musicdownloads@walmart.com.

We appreciate your continued business with Walmart.com and look forward to serving you in the future.

Sincerely,
Your Walmart.com Customer Service Team

A favorite of mine is the Railbenders - http://railbenders.com/
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

I would have thought that George Thorogood would be more appropriate. Gotta keep up the image.

I like George but he isn't country.

What actually IS country though? I always thought Dolly Parton was country, but apparently she's Bluegrass (whatever THAT is). I thought Carrie Underwood was pop/rock, but apparently she's country. How can you tell the difference?

Dolly did a lot of pop in the 70s and 80s, straight country in the 90s and a lot of bluegrass in the 2000s.   Bluegrass is a more acoustic version of country, that developed in Kentucky.  It generally doesn't use any keyboard instruments or drums.

Carrie Underwood is pop/rock.
