Hey Guys, I've been looking around the site for awhile and would like your input. I have been severely thinning for over 10 years now. At first, I just tried to hide it by covering over with what I did have. At first the thinning was mainly on the sides but has progressed and is now pretty thin all over. I get alot of comments from people (mainly family) about how it looks. I started cutting shorter and shorter and have now actually gone down to a no-guard on the sides and about a 1/8" on the top.
I keep think I need to just go all the way, and have even told people that someday I just going to shave it all off, but am having a really hard time just doing it.
I'm accountant and am pretty conservative by nature. Can you give me any help.
I've tried up-load a picture but am not sure it it worked.

Hi, Rick. If you are down to no guard on the sides and 1/8" on top, then you are on the cusp of Sly! All you need now is some shaving gel and a razor and you are there.
It only takes about a week -- maybe 10 days in the case of someone who's seriously thinning on top -- to grow out 1/8" of hair. So the worst that can happen is you don't like how you look for a week and then you're back at your normal look. If you feel really self-conscious, try it over a long weekend or while you're on vacation.
I am also an accountant and it was not an issue for me at all. Got a few compliments, but very few people noticed. I got more reaction when I buzzed down to 1/8" the first time than I did when I shaved completely! In all likelihood, people already consider you bald and no one will bat an eye if you shave off what little is left.
Really, this is a no-lose proposition. Completely sly is almost always an improvement over "nearly bald". You'll feel better when you've done it, so don't put it off too long.
Welcome to the group.

I have just gone down to this short in the past couple of weeks after I started visiting the site. Now I have had people to start really noticing. This morning I went to church and a friend came up and rubbed my head. It really ticked me off. I think have have just been trying to go shorter and shorter so that when I made the move it was no big change. I think your right and I'm there. I'll keep you posted for when I make the move and go totally sly.
Thanks for the input

Don't get ticked off -- you just had your first head rub!!
That happened to me at work one time. I'd recently changed departments and was working on a new floor. Somebody came up behind me and just started rubbing my head. I turned around and saw a middle-aged woman that I'd never seen before. She immediately turned scarlet. There was one other sly guy working on that floor at the time, and when she approached from behind, she thought I was him. She must have apologized five or six times. I didn't mind. I was a bit startled at first, but I didn't mind. I'd have minded less if she'd been a bit younger and more attractive

but c'est la vie.

Welcome NSY. If you've gone done to no guard on the sides and 1/8 on top it won't be much of a difference going totally sly. Go for it man. You won't regret it. It will make you feel like new man.

Welcome NYS. I myself took it down very close before I pulled the trigger. I got a bigger reaction to the short buzz than the actual shave. I'm with you, head rubs are cool if they are from the right person.

Thanks again guys for the encouragement. Champ, your before and after transformation is awsome. I think I'm going to start on growing out the goat this week to help with the look. This past couple of weeks of clipping shorter and shorter is helping to get used to it. Last Friday was when I actually took the top down to 1/8 was probably the most dramatic.

First, welcome to Sly Bald Guys!
I think you'll find that a lot of us here are in professional jobs... Since the bald head has become more acceptable in the mainstream, you'll find that most people won't even think twice about it in the workplace.
And yes, you'll come to love the head rub...

NYS, Welcome...I am very new to this site myself and have gotten great feedback from every post that I have done here. It is great to be able to come to place where others can relate and get help and advice.
As far as looking "professional, or conservative", as long as you are still dressing the part and brushing your teeth, you will only come off as being more confident. Which may even help you out more in some aspects...
Make sure you check out the other posts as they will help motivate you to the next level...being SLY!
