Shaving or not? Really confusing!
« on: August 13, 2011, 04:17:04 PM »
Hi guys,
I am very glad that I found this forum where you guys are so nice. I found some more confident when I read your stories. I am an asian guy who is going to be bald at just 26. I know it is almost the end of the route. My father is bald when he was 30 something and I have some signals of balding last 6 yrs. My hair was being terrible last 2 yrs when I went to study abroad. stress, different environments, dandruff and genetic background :(. I just finish my degree at a good school, a lot of hot girls are waiting for me but that is vanishing with the lost of hairs. I m very disappointed. Sry my story is bad but you know it is kinda .. Sad.
I felt good when I read about your positive stories of being sly.frankly, I found most of caucasian sly guys very attractive. I always thought if someday when I am bald I rather shave my head instead of camouflaging with some hairs in sides. But right now when I am looking around, no one in my country shave their head. It is really suck. People in my country have an idea that sly guys are bad guys,, like when they see gangsters :(. I dont wanna see my hair thinning day by day. You know it is devastating. I used to be an extremely confident guy, but I lost a lot of it right now. I want to shave but I dont know if it is good or not in my case. Any of you have any idea. Especially if you are an asian guy, what will happen? Are you accepted with your shaved head at your company? School? With girls?
Thank you for reading

I think a lot of people worry about being perceived as "bad guys" if they shave their heads. Are you sure its really going to be a problem, or are you just imagining it?

Perhaps you could try just buzzing it short as a first step.

Pictures will help.

It's too bad your country has those misconceptions about bald guys.  It seems in America bald guys are becoming so commonplace that nobody really thinks twice about it.

Hi, what country in Asia are you from?  I am from the Philippines and Ive been shaving my head for the past 7 years, the company Im working for does not mind my shaved head. As long as Im doing what my company expects of me.
The shaved head is gaining acceptance in the Philippines, I think. I see a lot of professionals and students sporting a shiny smooth head. Gone are the days when people have negative reactions toward people shaving their heads. A shaved head catches the interest of women, even some see it as sexy and men feel envy and wish they have the guts to shave their head.
I hope my post will be of help to you.

Over here in the US a lot of the perceptions of bald heads are based on the attitude of the bald guy. If a bald guy walks around trying to look tough or if he imagines himself to be superior that attitude will alienate people. If a sly guy is humble and friendly people will pick up on that, as well, and not worry. If you encounter people who judge you from a distance based on your hair, or lack thereof, they are not worth your time or concern.

Yes indeed...no sense making an effort to spend time with these kind of judgmental people.

I understand where you are coming from.... there's not many sly asian guys around even in the here in the states.  A lot of my friends jokingly call me a triad, just because thats the image they immediately associate with a sly asian guy.

Be confident with your decision whether you choose to go sly or wear your natural hair.  Maybe going sly will add a little mystery to you since you don't fit the perceived stereotype of a 'bad bald guy'.

Best of luck O0
