Random razor burn
« on: August 19, 2011, 12:28:39 AM »
Haven't had any issues with razor burn for a good while, but this past week two weeks I've been flaring up like crazy.  Tried waiting 1 day, 2 and 3 days, even switched to shower shave.  Went back n forth with my usual head lube and tried some gillete sensitive skin gel as well, no such luck.  Been using sensor excel on the headlbade sport, tried a fresh blade (the previous one wasn't even very old).  I do a cold rinse post shave and usually follow with glossy headlube, tried using aloe vera gel and tried eucerin intensive repair lotion, neither completel.y calms it

I'll shaving morning and go to the gym in the afternoon/evening and it'll still be burning when I start to sweat.  By the next morning tho it subsides and looks normal but will flare up as soon as I shave again even after giving a couple days rest.

Anyone got suggestions?  Is it just time to try a different razor?

Wow - not sure how to advise here.  I'm thinking you may be trying too many different things at once so it's hard to isolate the cause.  First, did you change anything like soaps / washes?  Some antibacterial soaps / washes have a drying effect on the skin.  Second, are you keeping your scalp moist / wet during the shave?  Razor burn can be caused by not keeping the scalp lubricated enough during shaving.

My advice: simplify your routine to see if you can isolate the cause.  Wash well.  Keep your head wet.  Use HeadSlick and relather if you shave in different directions.  Do a warm rinse to remove any remaining shaving cream.  Then a cold rinse.  Then use only a mild astringent to heal the scalp (try either witch hazel or ClearHead).  I'd stay off HeadLube or anything else until you can see if the razor burn is tamed.

Oh - one other thing: try a different razor.  I used to use a HeadBlade with Atra cartidges, but switched to a Fusion (five baldes) about two weeks ago.  I get a smoother, closer shave with absolutely no irritation.  The Fusion doesn't tug or pull at the hair and glides over the skin beautifully.

It could very well be a case of using  too many products that your scalp got irritated. Hope it gets better soon.  8)
