Killing the rat!

Like many others around here, I started loosing my hair around 18 or so. For some great idea I decided to hide it for the last 20 years or so. I am now 40 and absolutely hate this piece of carpet glued to my noggin. I originally got it because I have a rather large birth mark just above what used to be my hairline. I am scheduled with a plastic surgeon Monday to have it cut flat and laser treated. I figured that would be the ideal time to go SLY. I am fairly nervous of all the comments since I am going from a hair hat to sly but I’m ready to move on.
I have all weekend to gather my equipment.
This site has already helped a ton to nudge me into the decision to be free!

Don't wait, buzz that dead piece o' s%#t down, and then shave what's left. I guarantee you'll feel one hundred percent better, not to mention free. If you're worried about the birthmark, you can put a band aid over it and shave around it. It will also make things a lot easier for when they cut and laser it. Then you can change your name to smoothhead, Good luck!

"hairhead", you will not be the first member to get the dead rat off your head. The experience has been overwhelmingly positive for those guys, and I'm sure it will be the same for you.
Welcome to SBG and freedom from the tyranny of hair (or dead rat as the case may be).

As another sly guy who finally took the plunge because of some surgery .....take my advice and do it BEFORE the procedure.
After the procedure there is a good chance you'll have some irritation and inflammation -- not a good spot to be in for a first shave.
And welcome to the gang.

The plan is to get the rat off my head, clippers, shave, go to the doc. Come out a new bald man.

Good luck with the procedure.....you won't regret ditching the dead rat, but you will regret not going sly sooner

I got postponed by a week. They changed my surgery to this coming Monday. I was bummed out at first, then relieved, then pissed off. I am now just looking forward to it. My new plan is to do the deed Friday and get a little sun over the weekend and then go in Monday for the removal and big band aid.
Over the weekend we had a family gathering for mothers day and my bald uncle in reference to my turning 40 said “ In another year or two you are going to look like me” LOL, my wife looked at me and we had a pretty good laugh. I guess a lot of people have no clue to the varmint on my head. I don't know if that is going to make it easier or harder to explain when I make the switch.
How did I ever let this lie go on for so long?

Please be sure and wear sunscreen on that freshly scraped dome. You'll be thankful you did. The last thing you want is to go into the Doc with a red head.

I was a rat wearer for 6 years myself. Congrats on your new life! Trust me, you will feel infinitely better once you get that thing off and start being who you are. I too was afraid at first at what people were going to think, but believe me it was a non-issue. Yes, people will notice, but you will be amazed at the positive reactions you get! Welcome to sly guys, we're happy to have you.

The deed is done. I am officially Sly for two hours. I already feel like a new man. My wife likes it, my kids are freaked out, my dog didn't notice.
On the way to work I put the windows down, opened the sun roof and just enjoyed the wind on my bald head. It had to be the best feeling in the world.
My shave went pretty good with little irritation. I did get a small nick when working lefty on the back but over all not bad. I am using the Jergins tanner lotion with sun screen for a while until things even out.
I have a pretty good shadow but what can you do? I have had a “System” on for almost 20 years.
I want to thank everyone on this site for the encouragement and support. For some reason I am not smart enough how 8)to post an image.

Enjoy the freedom--you're in control now. And about the shadow--only you and some other sly guys will ever notice!
