Hey guys....
I haven't gone sly yet. I'm thinking about going sly as a New Years Resolution. What I was wondering is how did you guys go about changing your look when you went from hair to sly? I want to look as good as possible...but I realize I might have to change my look in order to do so.
In the past/currently - my professional look is a pair of square framed black glasses, clean shaven, dress shirts....a very preppy look. When I'm on downtime, I'll often sport a thick beard, the same glasses, and punk rock band shirts.
What I was thinking is for my personal time to start buying some oi!/punk t-shirts and playing up the skinhead look. I'm kind of worried about people thinking I'm a racist though when I'm not with my girlfriend (she's black, I'm white).
I'm also wondering about what I should do professionally? I was thinking of getting wire-framed glasses. I think they look better on sly guys than more hipster looking glasses. What do you all think? I like the whole tinted glasses look too. I'm 100% against getting contacts or laser surgery.
Anyway. I think the sly look will be a lot better in the workplace than a greasy looking, thinning and receding hairline. What do you all think are good fashion tips for sly guys?
I don't have any fashion tips for you. My advice has to do with looking and feeling confident about yourself at all times, and that's achieved by holding your head up and being proud of who and what you are. I don't think hair, or lack of hair, means you have to dress a certain way to match what's on your head. I'd just be myself and not have it look like I'm trying to move attention away from my head by dressing a certain way, which is how it might be interpreted. Just my two cents on this; good luck in doing what works for you.
As Troy said, just be yourself and dress in whatever way makes you feel comfortable. I think the wire-framed glasses would probably be a good idea, but that's just a matter of personal preference.

Personal opinion: wrong direction. When I went sly, I started dressing better, not worse.

If you don't want to give people the wrong opinion, don't play that up.

Either way. There's a sly dude at work with black square frames. He looks great.

100% accurate.
Dude..... you're WAY overthinking this. Just be you.
If that is jeans and t-shirts then that's it!...... if it's fine suits and dress shoes then that's it!!!!
Just be you...........
Just be yourself and you will have fun with it!!!
My only concern is why would you want to "play up" the skinhead look?

...you are only asking for trouble. Unless you actually try to look like a skinhead, no one will ever accuse you of being one.
What's the use of such "plans"?

Go sly, get used to be sly, then maybe look for clothing/eyewear/fake noses/etc. that suit your new look, and you feel comfortable in.
Once you go sly, you may see (perceive) that a certain style of clothing and accessories (glasses, etc) look better on you, and you end up changing your look. It's whatever YOU want. There are sly guys in all walks of life, especially in this country (something to do with freedom). You still get to be you, whoever you may be; and that's a very good thing!
