Question to cyclists - page 1 -

• Finally this summer I replaced my crappy bike that was even older than me with a new one, so I was able to take some longer rides and that's all great and fun. There's just one question that popped into my mind today: Do professional cyclists have ... uh ... a sac-sac in their shorts? I actually got one of these biker shorts which feels great on the butt, but after some time it still gets uncomfortable around the naughty bits.
  Any advice?

• Most bicycling short have some sort of chamois or gel padding around the "naughty bits" which should elevate some of the discomfort. Also, at least for guys, they wear them "commando" style. Other fabrics down there, in addition to the shorts, may cause chaffing or interfere with the wicking away of sweat. It may also be worth it to look into a different saddle.
  
  I've been riding for a few years - not lately though - and every once in a while it gets uncomfortable. I usually just adjust my position in the saddle or take a few mins to stand up out of the saddle to make things better.

  Maybe I try some other shorts, could be that mine are just not the best fit possible. On the other hand, I'm not trying to break any records, adjusting every now and then is quite OK for me.

• Mr. Noggin just wondering what kind of bike do you have now and what did you get rid of? I just recenlty got back into riding bikes aswell. Also flipped a couple.

• Been riding a bike since 1969 and find changing to a larger size saddle the answer. Also I only wear normal ever day shorts, don't think I want to wear the tight cycle type.If your into racing then thats another story.

• Hard to say what the solution will be but seat height angle and even type can all be factors.  It might just be that simple.  Mine is narrow up front and slightly nose down.  I ride wearing briefs and jeans and the boys haven't complained so far!

  Mrnemo: This is the new one. I didn't think I would ride it as much (and as fast ) as I'm finding myself doing it now. It's really fun.
  
  As far as I know the old one is from the 1950's, I've inherited it from my parents. I think every part except for the frame has been replaced though.

  I agree with Magoo. From the looks of your Sly pic, you look like a big guy (WWF type). I too, at one time, had "issues" with "the boys in the band not wanting to sing in harmony" when on rather long rides.  Larger saddle was the answer for me too. Now the boys are happy- and when they're happy, it makes for a pretty enjoyable ride!!
  
  Then again, you could combine the two suggestions -  the padded shorts and the larger saddle seems like the ultimate comfort solution.
  
  Been too hot to ride lately, though. Now that Sept. is here, maybe things will start to cool down a bit.

    When first reading your post, I could've sworn you were talking about MOTORCYCLISTS and the purchase of a new Harley (or something similar). Not until you posted a pic did I realize you were talking about a "bike-bike".   
  
  Also, your local bike shop(s) should be able to guide you in the right direction. Call, or do a drive-by, and see what gives.

• Noggin thanks for the pics. Wow that old bike has some character without a doubt . You can't beat the comfort of a hybrid though good choice

• I could be wrong but by the look in the picture it seems the front of the saddle is pointing higher than it should be. This would put more pressure on the family jewels.

    The seat is pointing upwards cause its a chics bike .

• Magoo you're right, but this is the one I got rid of. On the new one the saddle is horizontal, but maybe I try it with the front a little lower than the back.
  
  Noodles: I'm sorry but my current avatar is not actually showing me. I just love sausages! (Who would have guessed this?).
  Actually I'm 1.78m, 76kg. And totally metric, sorry about that, too.
  But then, the size of the jewels is a different thing... Nudge, Nudge, wink wink.
  I already have a biker short and it helped to a good amount, but you're right, I'll check out a bike store.
  
  Of course, aarrggh is spot on as always  .
  It didn't bother me that it's a ladies' bike though, because I would ride it only occasionally for a short trip to a store.
  And if someone would ask me about it, I'd say "at least it won't get stolen".
