Hi guys
I am curious to know how people feel about treatment for people with large/protruding/uneven, ....etc ears?
As someone who has rather protruding/large ears and have been recieving stick for it for as long as I can remember, is treatment acceptable I am interested to know what others think? I always used to keep my hair fairly long in order to hide my ears. Until my hair started falling out and I shaved my head then there wasn't much hope of hiding them so I have mostly opted for f*** it this is how I look. Most of the time I forget and it doesn't really affect me, but occassionally I get comments about my ears, I have been told that I have large ears twice in the last few weeks which is a bit more frequent than usual and makes me wonder wether everyone is thinking it and are generally being polite and not saying anything.
I notice mentioned on sites that apparently a large number of parents opt for treatment either surgery or pinning them back at a young age for their kids. I never recieved any such treatment and my parents would have been completely against it. Apparently according to plastic surgery sites bullying from a young age that children with prominent ears recieve can leave someone with psychological effects for life. Also apparently ear surgery is quick and easy etc. Are these similar to the gimics of hair transplant surgery? Personally I think the cosmetic surgery industry is a waste of time and money (apart from in severe situations where someone has been in an accident/other event that has resulted in deformities in appearance). The way I have heard some sites talk about ears are that they are a major deformity that should be corrected.
So am I right to stick to my guns, ignore comments from others and just stick to life with what I was given. Or do you think that there is a case for surgery to treat protruding ears? Has anyone experienced themselves or for someone they know treatment?

if you're comfortable with your ears I wouldn't see any point in doing it. But do whatever makes you happy.

You seemed to have answered the question--and IMO correctly. All surgery carries the prospect of an unforeseen, and sometimes very bad outcome. It doesn't seem to have adversely affected you so don't fix what ain't broke. -

If you do surgery I think it would be of benefit to you for a few years.
I think once you hit your 30s it will be a different story. You will be hanging out
with people who will find absolutely nothing wrong with your ears. And to tell
you the truth, from your photo I see nothing wrong at all.
At age 24 some immature people may occassionally make comments but I'm telling you dude
as days go on you will hear those comments less frequently.

Why look like everyone else? God made you the way you are for a reason. I don't think they look bad at all. Probably don't stick out any more than mine and I haven't had any one say anything to me. When I first jumped in the bald waters, I had people cutting on my all the time. When I figured out how I was different, I took the comedian approach. I found what everyone else found different about me and beat them to the punch. Kind of broke the ice and gave them no ammunition. I'm a tall ugly bald guy with big ears and my wife loves me anyway!

Sultan, dude, you are getting VERY sound advise. If it's a major hangup in your brain and you have to do something, then do it and get the best surgeon you can find to do it! Keep in mind that there are always possibilities of problems, but if you want it changed bad enough, that won't matter.
Also, time can be your friend in this area (it doesn't slow down for anyone), and in a few years, as you get older, and everyone else around you gets a bit older (and hopefully mature a little) things like ears will be a non-issue. Older people might notice, but will say nothing because they have their own issues and will accept you for who you are.
When I meet someone, I'm generally looking at their eyes; which is the window to their soul, to see who they truly are, the rest of the outside is just a package. A good movie example of the eyes is a small section in "The Tailor of Panama" where the assistant warns the tailor about the new guy (Pierce Brosnan) and says not to deal with him because he has the devil in his eyes (a good observation). If you haven't seen the movie, I highly recommend it.

We all have our own individual looks and few of us look like movie stars.Because some jerk opens his mouth about our appearance lets not get all out of joint.If your ears don't bother you let them be. If to you they are a problem then consider surgery.

I have a large hemangioma (port-wine stain) covering my right cheek. When I was much younger I (foolishly) elected to undergo laser treatments to try and "fix" it. All it did was to ruin the texture of my skin. So now it's bumpy and "stained". That was a big mistake that I very much regret.
Based upon that experience, I'd say that unless your ears are bothering you to the point where it's causing serious quality-of-life issues, let it be.
And personally, I think they look fine.

Sultan, I'm another person with big "Dumbo" ears. It is just like everything else...I don't care what others think or say. I know it is harder to deal with when you are younger. I would never have my ears pinned for the same reason I would never get a rug or plugs.
You have the right attitude. Stay with your heart and your gut.

There's NOTHING wrong with a little surgery. If it helps your self image dude, I'd do it in a heartbeat!
Unfortunately... there's no surgery yet available that can help my condition!

I think I've already made my decision to stick with what I've got. After all I've made it this far. I think they were worse when I was younger as well, my sister always says that I grew into my ears. The only worrying thing is old age as your ears are supposed to be a little bigger in comparison to the rest of you face, but probably by that point I will be beyond caring about my appearance.
Mostly I am ok with my ears, just seems sometimes that the world is against people with protruding ears........ I've never seen that movie, will have to look it up at some point seems like it might be worth a look. -

Man your on the right track. I remember when Kurt Busch who races NASCAR got his pinned. He got made fun of more for having it done! I honestly never noticed his ears till he had surgery. Now I look at them every time they interview him.

my left ear is about 1/2 inch higher than my right. but that is part of what makes me, me! as long as you are comfortable bro, surgery is kinda pointless. what happens if you are not happy with the outcome? more surgery? could be a vicious, and dangerous, circle. i would just leave it alone. good luck with whatever route you take. but it seems like you are heading in the right direction bro!
