My kid is now a 2nd class and heading for the Amphibious Assault Ship USS IWO JIMA LHD7 in April. Can't believe it's been 6 years since I dropped her off at recruiting station.

In My Opinion, that isn't a bad life for men and women in this day and age.
And E5 at a young age, makes it all the better.
And the lucky ones get Carrier duty. (Next to shore duty, that is)

I'd say at 24 YO, 6 years in, owns a house, car and has a toddler. She's doing darn good. I believe all children should have to do boot camp plus 2 years. :-) I know my sailor loves it most of the time.

Excellent way too start your adult life. . " serving your country "

I wish i would have taken that path instead of goofing off when i was a youngster . .
Heck :: I`d probably be a General by now . .

Good for her. That ship makes use of Hovercraft Assault boats. Very cutting edge.

I know your proud of the commitment she has towards the Navy as well as the Marine Corps since she's gonna be around a bunch of Jarheads when she hops aboard the Iwo. I heard the Iwo is a nice hull and it's by Navy and Marine Corps standards very young which means biggers quarters and no duct-tape and bubblegum trying to keep everything together. You should also be proud of yourself because I know how my Mom felt when I was gone, Military Mom's are the best

She has blue cammies on. Is that a recent change in uniform for the Navy?

Yeah, that's the latest copy cat takeoff on what the Marines started some time ago. I don't know why they call them "uniforms" anymore.

Every service has to have it's own take on a design. Maybe "Starship Trooper" was right in having one "uniform" for the military. Hmmm...cut costs...
