I've been having problems with Outlook Express for the past week or so. When I try to send an email, it gets stuck in my Outbox and ends up getting sent to the recipient multiple times. I use it for two different email accounts from different providers and it's happening with both of them. I have no idea how to fix this; does anyone have any troubleshooting tips?
I use Outlook and have that happen frequently with large files like videos. I thought it was a server issue but may be not? It won't delete either until I unplug my network cable.

Here's a fix to try:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/262052 I don't think this is directly related though.
Others suggest deleting the "outbox.dbx" file.

Thank you. The problem did start after I tried to send some large-ish MP3 files to someone, but I deleted all of those -- or so I thought. I'll give the link a try.
If you're using a wireless router, reboot--it's a pain but after large files you just have to do it.
If it stalls sending attachments then try this
1. Start Outlook Express.
2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
3. Click the Security tab, click and under Virus Protection clear the
"Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" check box
4. Click OK.
Another scenario
This behavior can occur if Outlook Express is configured to break apart messages larger than <x>K, where <x> is a number of kilobytes. The message is not being sent multiple times, instead it is being divided into smaller messages before it is sent.
If you do not want your messages to be divided into smaller messages before they are sent, disable this feature in Outlook Express. To do so, use the following steps:
1. Start Outlook Express, and then click Accounts on the Tools menu.
2. Click the Mail account you want to change, and then click Properties.
3. On the Advanced tab, click the "Break apart messages larger than <x> KB" check box to clear it.
4. Click OK, click Close, and then quit Outlook Express.
If neither scenario is what you are seeing and if either doesn't work let me know and I wil try to think of some other tactic to try.

That doesn't seem to have worked.

The "break apart" option was already unchecked.
I'm not using a wireless router; I've deleted everything that was in my Outbox. When I click on "Send/Receive", I can receive OK, but when it tries to send anything, it usually tells me that there is an error and to check the details below -- but there aren't any details below. Sometimes I don't get any error message at all, but the dialog box doesn't close when the Send/Receive is executed.
Have you thought about using Thunderbird?
I'm not a big fan of outlook. I've heard good things about thunderbird, I've been using mozilla/firefox for the last 4 years.
Anyone using google chrome
Have you thought about using Thunderbird?
No, actually. I don't know anything about it.

I think that it is a Linux program that will operate within Windows. I used to use Firefox and T-Bird, I think, was Mozilla's version of something like what Hotmail is to MSN.
I seem to remember hearing about a virus a few years ago that did something like what you describe. That kind of stuff worries me to the point where I have stopped making online purchases altogether.
Actually Thunderbird is a native Windows app made by the same folks that brought us Mozilla Firefox. Thunderbird is a small mail client that is 10 times faster than OE and a lot safer.
I use Thunderbird and love it.
