cool vid. he can surely make it scream.. for me i've just gotten a acoustic guitar from a friend with Teaching DVD.. hope I can master it.. be cool arround a summer fire havinga few beers and playing guitar..
I taught myself how to play guitar 23 years ago with a Sears acoustic and the Roy Clark Big note guitar book. I've never had a lesson, but have played with some good players and learned alot by watching them.
If you have the time, I would suggest lessons. I'm self-taught and have some bad habits that limit my playing still today. My son started playing at 12, and while I showed him the basics, I had him take lessons from a professional instructor. Now 5 years later, the kid is teaching me new stuff.
Be ready. Guitars can turn into an obsessive hobby. With the Taylor 814CE I just bought, I now have 8 guitars siting on stands around the living room.
yeh I enjoy playing guitar too.
I was a drummer in a few bands for a good few years but when all that folded & I moved to a new area I took up guitar after hearing Martin Carthy play - I just really wanted to be able to play like him as I'd never heard anyone play like that. I am still trying to master it but I get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
Good luck GBORN. Allso check this site out for some good tabs - got a great Scarborough Fair from here:

I just started playing again (07/01). I figure if I tell myself I can't go to bed unless I've spent at least 15 minutes on the guitar every day I'll either learn the darn thing or learn not to need sleep!

The calluses are coming back a little quicker this time but… OH THE PAIN!

ha ha ... yep....I know what you mean about the calluses, Sgt. Pete!
Keep at it though ,... it does get easier! When I first started playing it used to really hurt my fingers where they were hardening up especially when I went outside in the cold during the winter .. used to make them ache like mad but now I don't notice at all. I guess we need to suffer for our art!
I try & play a bit most days too ... maybe an hour a day

Yeah, it's kinda cool that my fingers seem to remember needing calluses because they're coming back quicker this time and maybe this time I won't let them get away!
