Joe can you post a pic of your head ? Maybe they are freckles that you have never noticed before. But the irritation is caused by dull blades and to much pressure.
Let it go a day.

I did put quite a bit more of pressure than I should have.

Well that is the biggest possibility of why you have irritation just ease up a bit and it should get better

What color were the dots, red or more brown and freckly?
Sounds like you either pressed too hard with a new blade or pressed too hard with a too old blade (both can be super irritating).
Your advice of nivea shave balm has worked well for me. Dimenthicone lotion also has been working well - it's for diaper rash but I have ultra sensitive skin and only one episode of irritation so far so my superstitious side is telling me it helps.

Of course. I love the shave balm. I did press too hard like I said

I'd consider adding on the gentlest. fragrance free lotion you have available. If you want to try dimethicone I recommend it but only because it seems to work okay for me, no official expertise to back me up.
It might be worth skipping a day shaving if you're still irritated tomorrow. The horror, I know!

Aha. Yes! "the horror". Skipping a day is terrible but this time I have to do it.

Joe, skip a day so the irritation has time to heal, skip the second day too if needed.
Can it be the razor? I mean, maybe a new one is needed?
Basically, just what Switchy said.
Have you changed something in your routine? like different shaving gel/balm/soap/etc...

Joe, in the future, try rubbing an ice cube after you shave to prevent the dots....Good Luck!

The ice is a great idea. I've done it the last two times I've shaved my head. I told my wife it's one of those "hurts so good" kinda things.

I have tried everything. The 4 days seems like it should work
