So I watched the Bears and Lions last night. I came away from that experience with 2 independent conclusions:
1) Jay Cutler is on that top tier of NFL QBs and when he's on LOOK OUT!
2) I can't watch my beloved Bears any more until they get some kind of an offensive line strategy that involves blocking.
Conclusion 1 is self-explanatory if you watched Cutler make a silk purse out of a sow's ear last night. The guy was throwing completions upside-down.
Conclusion 2.....let me just say that I remember Joe Theismann's career ending injury from years ago. Watching Cutler get hunted on the field is like waiting to see another one of those. I'm sure his O-line wants to do the right thing but they are incapable. I don't know if they just need to clean house and get all new people up front or if it's the Mike and Mike (Martz and Tice) show that needs to be cancelled.
But since I live in the northwoods of Wisconsin I have started to think that it would do no real harm for me to start watching the Packers. Before anyone questions my loyalty as a Chicago (the city-not the 'burbs) native I stayed loyal all through the Abe Gibron years. So I been there and done that. I just don't want to watch Cutler throwing passes from a wheelchair.
Cutler faced a very tough defense............................the Lions are finally getting good. Even though I won't be looking for a super bowl just yet, they are quickly earning respect around the league
