I've communicated with many men who work in corporate workplaces who eventually shaved, and not one has had any negative repercussions as a result of it. There's always the possibility that someone in your workplace will be unreasonable. In my experience, though, that's unlikely. As long as you maintain your look, it's a very professional hairstyle. It's smooth and clean, which is about all one can ask of a hairstyle in a professional environment. As for looking professional...what looks cleaner and more professional than a shiny bald head and a business suit!
I remember my first 'bald day' to the office. Because I was somewhat apprehensive about my appearance, I used it as an excuse to upgrade my wardrobe and took the extra step to make sure that I looked well groomed. I also found that because I loved the way my bald head looked, it affected my overall bearing. I walked taller, had better posture, smiled more, and took genuine pride in my appearance.
Business has nothing to do with a shaved head or hair. If you act in a professional manner and with confidence, people won't even notice or care that you have a shaved head. I've been in corporate for 10 years with a shaved head and the only problem I had was fighting off the lay-days so I could get some work finished.
I had more problems with my long hair than I do now. As an x-ray tech, I had to keep it pulled back in a ponytail all the time. Anyway, the sly look goes with anything. I get more compliments when I am dressed up actually, like going to church or if I am meeting with a client.
I work for the Federal Government (don't worry everything is under control) in a professional series. I'm in a huge building that is 1/3 offices and 2/3 airplane hangar (depot maintenance) and while the majority of the SlyGuys are out in the shops I have never gotten an anti-sly reaction from my coworkers or superiors.
The only one who doesn't like my sly look is my mom. She liked my curly blond hair.
I am an IT Director in a pretty large law firm, and I had hair one day, and was bald the next. There was absolutely no difference in how people perceive me. I think it all comes down to how you carry yourself. I you do so in a professional manner, it doesn't matter.
And the sly look does look great when dressed up with a suit and tie.
I also work in a very professional environment with a 50/50 split between women and men in the office. I've had nothing but positive comments from both sides. My clients don't seem to react at all either. As long as you look professional and keep groomed I don't see how anyone could complain. How can they anyway, most of us were heading that way anyhow. We just skipped the middle ground waiting for the stragglers to drop off.
