One more week left of my 30 Day challenge. The end (or should I say a new beginning) is in sight. Feeling very comfortable with the shaving process and it has become a ritual I enjoy doing now. To anyone who is still doing the 30 day challenge, keep with it!
I'm still at the beginning. Congrats to you. Any shaving discoveries you want to share with a fellow newbie?
You've discovered the joy of the shaving ritual! I look forward to the daily shave and what results from it. Stick with it after 30 days - being sly just gets better!
Here's what I've discovered so far.
1.It's not about having extremely curly hair that guaranteed me razor bumps, but I got razor bumps because my shaving technique was horrible. Either the pre-shave, shave, or post-shave was out of whack. When the technique is okay razor bumps stay away (unintentional rhyming) .
2. Scrubbing my head clean (usually with the same body wash I use for the rest of my body) really keeps my head looking healthy. After that I use a loofah and then a head scrub. A good moisturizer is essential to keep you scalp looking good as well. I use HeadLube.
3. Shaving everyday (or at least every other day) prevents my hair from getting to the length where I could get ingrown hairs. For me if I get lazy with shaving and let it go for 3 or 4 days I might run the risk of ingrowns.
4. I only shave WTG and XTG (never ATG) so it is important for me to find my hair growth pattern (especially at the crown). Just because the internet says you hair should grow in a certain direction doesn't mean that is how your hair grows all the time.
Here's a few of the things I have learned along the way. It ain't too much, but as I learn more I'll be sure to pass it on. Keep it up with your own 30 day challenge
.
And don't worry npsbg, I will definitely keep it up after the 30 days. Next stop after this is the 3 month challenge!
Thank you. It's good to get the ideas of other's just starting. I still feel a little like a fish out of water trying to get this routine down but I'm getting better.
Hey Acme,
At the very beginning I had to tweak different parts of my routine. I have a lot of great products that I use, but I also bought some stuff that is collecting dust in my cabinet. For me, it was a lot of experimenting at first, but I feel like I have a solid shaving routine and the proper products to keep me covered. Just keep testing things to see what works best for you.
Getting the shaving routine down is as much an art as a science. I've experimented with different razors, preparations, and methods to find one that works. At first it was frustrating because I couldn't get all the stubble or I was getting bumps and nicks. I'd see sly guys with beautifully smooth shiny domes and wonder what I was doing wrong.
So I kept at it, searched the forum, and now have down a routine that works. Over the past three months, my scalp has become accustomed to being shaved daily, so it's less sensitive to bumps and razor burn.
Stay with it and don't get discouraged. You'll find a routine that works and when you do, you'll be even happier being sly.
