I'm looking forward to Standard Time this weekend.
With local sunrise not until 7:50 or so this morning, it's hard to get up and get going in the morning. The good thing is that this is the 'latest' sunrise of the year. Sunday we move back to standard time and the sunrise will not get this late again before the days get longer.
Just remembering the days in Alaska where sunrise was about 10:15 a.m, although the sky started getting light about 8:15 a.m.
Feeling sluggish with the shorter days of winter. Looking forward to February!

Our clocks changed last weekend , but i refuse to change and my watch and clock stays at British summer time . It does not worry me that in December sunrise is 0900, sunset is 1650 . But your right February is the glimmers of the end of winter

End of March till I feel better.

The only thing that sucks about the end of DST is that I have to work 13 hours instead of 12 overnight Saturday...(I have to work overnight the next three nights)

Hate standard time.

Hate standard time.
Daylight Savings Time has been extended for so long now, I really don't know why we bother going back to Standard Time.

THIS! All this clock-changing nonsense is an anachronism that needs to be eradicated.
Just declare DST as the new "Standard time" and keep it there.

I kind of like standard time but it is probably just because being a farmer I work less that time of year. I wouldn't mind it being one or the other though so I would have to change the clock. In the summer we are going to go from sun up til sun down no matter what the clock says. I just think that is funny that some people like my sister in law think dst adds more sunlight hours to the day. I can't convince her that changing your clock doesn't change the sun.

I think all this dates back to WW2 and the need to avoid / conserve use of electricity. The only advantage to the change will be kids not standing by the road, in the dark, waiting for the school bus.

Do you get an extra hour's pay?

Just set the clock once and forget it. I do not like the change either way. I just wish we would stick with either one, DST or Standard time. Haven't we all advanced to the point we can alter our schedules if we depend on the sun. I think we already do that.

Yes, we get paid 13 hours for tonight......On a side note, most of Arizona doesn't observe DST, so I guess they are lucky....During my two tours in Iraq, DST was not observed, though it was weird seeing the sun set at 6:05pm one day, and two days later seeing the sun set at 4:55pm!

I don't think Hawaii observes dst either.

Spring forward, Fall back ... Spring forward, Fall back ... Spring forward, Fall back ...
Why can't my auto lease and monthly bills do the same ?

I am bad about changing the clock in my car. I usually just add or subtract an hour from the time displayed. This bothers those who ride with me...especially when I finally get around to changing it, and it really throws them off.
-
I'm glad that we here in AZ do not change time, there is really no need to. We get plenty of burning hot sun all day, so there's no reason (or desire) to have any more.
Hawaii also doesn't change, and I believe there are one or two more states as well.

An extra hour of sleep tonight!

An extra hour of sleep tonight!
Now we look at it as a extra hour of sleep. When I was younger I looked at as I got to stay out a hour longer.

LOL. Same here. I can never figure out the magic sequence of buttons that will change the time.
Though I think the electronics in my new ride might be smart enough to auto-set. We shall see...

Here in the UK, as almost everywhere else in Europe, we went back to winter time last weekend: Sun 27 Oct 2013.
The UK and the Republic of Ireland are on GMT - so are one hour behind most of Europe which is on CET (Central European Time). CET includes Spain, Germany, Italy, France, BENELUX, Poland, most of Scandanavia and several other central European countries. This makes CET among the most populous time zones in the world with around 350 million with their watches on this time zone.
Periodically, there's a debate at government level as to whether the UK should adopt CET. This was last discussed in 2011.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-15490249
If the UK adopted CET, we'd be in sync with most of the rest of Europe. But it would increase the time difference between the UK and the US East Coast from 5 to 6 hours for most of the year.
Personally, I like the idea of UK moving from GMT to CET. In June and July, it wouldn't dark until 23:00, and we'd be spared the annoying hour's change whenever we cross the English Channel. But there would a price to pay. During the shortest days, it would not get properly light until 09:30. And it would be worse in Scotland, being further north - full day light would not come until 10:00 in the morning for some weeks.

We now have more months of Daylight Savings Time than Standard Time (7 vs 5). The theory is that we save energy, but that has never been proven. Several years ago when we adjusted the date for changing the clocks, it was supposed to be for two years, then Congress would have a study done to see if we actually saved any energy. They've never appropriated funds for the study, so we really don't know the answer.
I like getting the extra hour of sleep in the fall, but hate to give it back in the spring!
