Post by: classykid on February 06, 2013, 01:24:30 AM
So Im entirely new to this site and Im seeking out some advice. Ive always kinda wanted a buzz cut but Im not sure if I can pull it off. What do you guys think? I guess if you think I could, what guard would be best? Thanks for the advice guys : ) I added a photo of me for you to see.

I guess I'll even humor conversation on shaving my head bald, like charity or something ..... cause it seems to be the trend on this site.

Well, if you were in the military, you would have no option. They would just get the clippers out, no guard, and buzz your head to match everyone else.

You're not in the military, but you could still just do it.  It's low maintenance, little or no shampoo. Does not look greasy. It's not out of style.

You don't have to worry about a comb or bad hair day.

You may not be ready for the shaved head, but the buzzed gets close, and that's pretty cool. Give it some time. You'll want to go bald just to try it out.  There are lots of young guys on this site that have done just that and really like it.

When I started the barber did about a #4. After a few months I thought it cost too much so I bought my own clippers.

Quickly went to #3. Then #2, then curious, and went to #1.

On a summer vacation, I left the guards at home and just buzzed with no guard.  That was my favorite. It was not long and I got the razor blade out and you see me today. I love the FEEL of a bald head. And I get great compliments on the look, too.

Hmm lots to think about, I guess Im not even sure it'll look good on me, but do you think a 3 would be a good start? Sounds lame but I wish someone could just photoshop a picture for me LOL

Wish someone could help you with that dude. Honestly best option is just take the plunge and do it. Im sure a trip to the barbers for a quick buzz would be no problem or even do it yourself at home. And PS that military idea sounds good for him LOL lets put you in ROTC for the haircut ; )

Go for a buzz -- #1 would look good and feel great. Probably get a barber to do it first to make it neat and then in time do it yourself to save money.

a number one sounds REALLY short

It's all relative -- it's not short compared to shaved. Ok, on second thought go for a #2. Remember it's not permanent and you might as well make a change that is big enough to be meaningful.

haha yeah, a number 2 might work better. What would that length be like? and I think any buzz will be a big change for me. Ive never shaved or buzzed my hair before

#2 is 6 mm or about a quarter of an inch -- long enough so you won't look bald at all and so it won't take too long to grow out if you want to do that. #3 is 3/8 inch.

At your age and with your hair I reckon that you should go for #2 -- it will be really easy to look after and free you from some concerns about your hair that you might not even be aware of. For example -- is it looking ok? do I have hat/pillow/helmet hair?

at your age I really wanted a buzzed haircut.  Did so finally and kept it that way since - now shaving.

just give it a try - I am 26 now and started shaving because of MPB - I often had long curly hair but always like the short buzzcuts better and now the head shaving was a huge confidence booster
you know that you can grow your hair back any time you want - so just give it a try - maybe you'll ned some days to get used to it - but if you already have the urge to do it just do it. I found out that the best decisions I've made have always been those where I trusted my instincts and didn't care about other peoples opinions or reactions - in the end it's really all about how you feel and when you are feeling good others will respect you for that

I think a short buzz-cut will look good on you

Cesar had a great idea to get it shaved at a St. Baldricks event. You will be able to find out what it is like to be bald and raise money for a great cause. You will most likely get so much support from your family and friends and be a hero all at the same time.

So, tell us a bit about you.  I missed the part about how old you are and how your hair looks to you (do you think you are thinning or balding anywhere? Do you just want something shorter?)  Do you have a significant other (or insignificant other: parent, relative) that is against your cutting your hair, because it is yours and you should be able to do what you want with your self.

22, no partner Im single, my hair is perfectly fine nothings thinning or balding. I think I just want a change and something shorter. I guess I just want something easy and Im a bit curious what it would be like.

Well, if you have the itch to find out, scratch it by buzzing...If you don't like it, you can always grow it back to where you are in a few weeks....Of course if you buzz and like it, the urge to go even shorter may happen. Good luck to you in whatever you decide.

Im still supporting the st.baldricks idea. Its a great cause and you can experience being bald with a good excuse. Maybe we should have a site sponsored team?!
