Anyone remember the announcement in the movie Good Morning Vietnam where there reminded soldiers "to avoid razor burn, use cold water?"
OK, so I admit, I don't usually get razor burn. And I appreciate warm water and warm lather.
But has anyone tried cold water? What were the results?

I was forced to shave one time with cold water and I would never do it again! Though, I'm not sure he meant cold water during the shave. Maybe afterwards.

A long time ago I had heard something about using cold water to shave so I tried it on my face and it wasn't that bad, but I am sticking with the hot water from now on.

I believe the cold water is to be used after the shave, not during. The warm water softens the whiskers and the cold water splash causes the pores in your skin to close, thusly preventing the raw inflammation the skin is succeptable to after shaving.

warm water opens the pores, cold water closes them. most of us splash cold water or rub ice cubes on the dome after a shave and it does help.

I normally use cold water after the shave as well.
My point originally was...during the Vietnam war...the military encouraged shaving with cold water during the shave. There are numerous references to this on the internet as an "old military trick."

personally, I'd have thought shaving with cold water would mean you wouldnt get such a close shave, because the pores would be all closed up and the hairs wouldnt be stickin out so far.

The government probably paid some wacko scientist 5mil to see how to help the troops stay alert and cutdown on grooming time!

Im an icecube rubber here...lol Wow is that open for a slam. But anyways...warm water for the shave and a nice rinse with the cold water or ice cube here. The military had their ways of getting their men to do things that they normally wouldnt do in a normal situation...so I say scrap the idea of using cold water for the initial shave. Stick with warm water, cold rinse....you will feel much better about yourself.

Agreed. Warm water before and during the shave will help to soften the hairs and a cold water rinse will close the pores and also help to close up any little nicks.

Shaving with cold water is freaking horrible, I did it once and regretted it! The water makes your scalp leathery and the razor feels like it basically is scraping your skin off. Terrible, stick with warm water.
Ice cold rinses after your done shaving is great though! If you can bear it
