yeah hank hill says, "taste the meat, not the heat!" but i prefer that nice flavor charcoal gives my fat steaks!
hank is the man, but i have to disagree with him on this one! that nice charcoal smell cookin my steaks on the grill, beer in one hand and tongs in the other! nothing beats it.

I have been using propane for years mainly for the convenience. But when I was growing up and learning how to grill it was always charcoal. Cooked on charcoal for the first time in a long time at my cousins house on Memorial Day.

I'm proud to propane! Why? It's many times easier to time the done-ness of the meat than it is with charcoal. If you do it right, you're in total control.

Charcoal...
Most people that learn to grill using charcoal end up sticking with it. There is a small learning curve, but nothing beats the added flavor

Charcoal and chips, where appropriate. Sometimes I spend the extra and get "natural" charcoal--wood blocks that have been made into chunks of charcoal--it's a different effect, extremely hot, but not long lasting fire. I like smoking, putting a fire on one side of the grill, covering w/ moist chips and smoking with the food on the other side with the cover down. This is especially good w/ whole chickens, and pork shoulder. We also have a natural gas grill in the kitchen that is extremely handy for griling and avoiding the fat from fried/sauteed foods.

I guess this shows my age but when I started grilling there was no such thing as propane grills. But I use one today.

I use a Weber Kettle BBQ and really enjoy getting it going.. I like to do roasts of beef, pork and lamb on it..
Go easy on the starter fuel.. or you will have found yet another alternative to the Mach III or Fuzion

I use neither. I set up my grill to run on natural gas from the house supply. No worries about tanks to refill.
Now I need to run a gas line under the deck at our new house for the grill. We're having a father's day cookout this weekend.

Charcoal gets my vote. I've used the same weber for over 11 years. But, I too use propane for convenience

The only other thing that I am interested in is the primo grill/smoker. I've wanted one since I first saw them last october at the jack daniels annual bbq.
