Ward's Reviews - Headblade Headslick
« on: May 08, 2009, 10:30:08 PM »
Arguably the most popular shave lubricant (cream, oil, gel) in the SBG community. Here's my take on it.

Ease of lathering: Easy. Headslick really shines when you take a shave brush and some warm water to it. It might not lather up as much as a premium shave cream, but it does a damn good job.

Life span of lather: Headslick lasts for quite a bit. I couldn't really ask for much more.

Moisturizing: This cream keeps your moisture balance very well. I didn't notice any intense moisturizing properties though.

Lubrication: Headblade did a great job in creating one hell of a slick shave cream. Excellent.

How protective?: Headslick really delivers good protection. The only time I ever got any nick while using Headslick was when I used it in conjunction with Headblade. Other than that, Headslick keeps my head nick-free and looking sly.

Scent: This is my only gripe. There is basically only a menthol smell to the cream. I love menthol, but I'd like to see Headblade add some scent to compliment it. Mint would be nice. Being basically 'unscented', Headslick does work great in a 'superlather' with another minty or citrusy shave soap (like Williams).

Price: You pay around $8 for an 8oz bottle. A bottle can last you upwards of 4 months if used conservatively with a shave brush. You can't beat that steal of a deal.

Would you buy again?: Heck yes. I have about 2 full bottles to go through before I even think about buying another one though.  ;)

Ease of lathering - 8/10

Life span of lather - 9/10

Moisturizing - 7/10

Lubrication - 9/10

How protective? - 9/10

Scent - 6/10

Price - 10/10

Would you buy again? 9/10

Overall: 8.5/10

I bet that happens to you often, Mike.  ;D

I love Headslick, but the only criticism I have of Headslick is that it really clogs a razor. So what I do is combine Headslick with Blad Guyz Shave Gel. I have found that makes a huge difference in the clogging factor because the Bald Guyz Gel is a little thinner. Since the Head Bald Guy is running a promotion, I stocked up on the shave gel. Plus, it's also an awesome product.

I use to have the same problem with my Headslick too. Use a brush with it (if you haven't already). This should eliminate most if not all clogging. Most thick creams seems to clog razors up unless lathered properly.

Silly question here....do I need a mug to use a shave brush with Headslick or do I just put the Headslick directly on the brush?
What's the  dope? I'm curious about this...thanks.

i just usually make sure there is enough water in the mix when I massage it into a "lather".  I havent had much problem with it clogging.

Schro, I would just put the lotion on your noggin and then take the brush to get it lathered up really good.  If you use the mug, I would think you would be wasting alot of headslick.  I dunno though, because I dont use a brush.  I am going to consider this method though.

That was my thought on it.

I manage pretty well by putting the HeadSlick right in the palm of my hand then add a couple of drops of shaving oil and lather/foam it with the brush till the lather is good and I have never had a problem with it sticking. Rinses off pretty well as far as I'm concerned.

If you'll notice Michigan, no one around here does it the same way, hence why you have to keep trying things on your own until you have the best you can find for your style, your hair type, hair color and tons of factors. It's all part of the fun of the shave!!

I usually put the Headslick in a coffee mug and take a soaked brush to it. I add small amounts of water to the mug until the lather is nice and almost frothy. A good way to tell your lather is ready is when the lather sits on-top of the brush. A good video to demonstrate this is:

Here is a picture of the lather I was able to make out of a dime sized portion of Headslick, using a shave brush from Walmart.

My awesome girlfriend found this huge shave mug on sale for $2.50 at Giant Eagle. It was the last one! Talk about lucky.

Headslick now avail. in a PUMP Dispenser Cap!!
« Reply #14 on: May 21, 2009, 08:06:17 PM »
:@`GOOD NEWS for those LOYAL HeadSlick users, I noticed @ a local Winn-Dixie Supermarket that HEADSLICK is now available in a pump-top dispenser. Yahoooooooooooo.....  :@`

This could be old news, but it is the very first time I've spotted this type cap in the HeadBlade product line.

If Winn-Dixie stocks it, I'm sure Rite-Aid, CVS, and the other retail outlets who currently stock the product line, will be sporting the new bottles soon.
