Any others you recommend Ricktus?Oh yeah, right now I really love Crystal Castles, and you should definitely check out the album 'Homogenic' by Bjork. Its 12 or 13 years old and still sounds totally futuristic and mindblowing. Also have you heard of Alec Empire? His album 'Intelligence and Sacrifice' is one of my favs, its electro music but it's also got a really aggressive metal feel to it, which you might like. Hey Peter, those bands are awesome! I was listening to Immortals 'At The Heart Of Winter' this morning while I made breakfast btw. That whole 90's period was a great time for BM, so many amazing albums came out. Emperor, Immortal, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Satyricon...Ricktus, you have an awesome taste in black metal, I like it! Mayhem, Bjork, Darkthrone and Satyricon are all great bands. Dark Funeral is good too, and who can forget about Burzum. Windir is another black/viking metal band you would probably enjoy. And you're definitely right, the 90's were a great black metal decade, my collection is still nowhere near complete though. Every day I search for new bands and I tend to find one's that I really enjoy.

pardon my ignorance but is "mushroomhead" considered heavy metal? i kinda like them cuz theyre from ohio i think.i also kinda like slipknot.
Guys, I'm gunna try and clear some things up here. It seems metal has become a very complicated genre over the past 2 decades. Having multiple genres then evolving into sub genre's. Those who can truly understand metal are those who are dedicated to the music. Slipknot and Mushroomhead definitely go at each others throats, mostly due to the mask thing. Slipknot apparently are considered nu-metal, Mushroomhead I'd have to say alternative also. I could go in forever, but it would take up way too much space on this thread.
# 1 Primary heavy metal subgenres * 1.1 Black metal * 1.2 Death metal * 1.3 Doom metal * 1.4 Drone metal * 1.5 Folk metal * 1.6 Glam metal * 1.7 Gothic metal * 1.8 Groove metal * 1.9 Industrial metal * 1.10 Metalcore * 1.11 Neo-classical metal * 1.12 Nu metal * 1.13 Post-metal * 1.14 Power metal * 1.15 Progressive metal * 1.16 Sludge metal * 1.17 Speed metal * 1.18 Stoner metal * 1.19 Thrash metal# 2 Cross-genre terms within heavy metal * 2.1 Alternative metal * 2.2 Avant-garde metal * 2.3 Christian metal * 2.4 Extreme metal * 2.5 Rap metal * 2.6 Symphonic metal * 2.7 Viking metal- wikipedia, heh

Can't forget about one of my personal favorites, Brutal Death Metal.
I'd like to note that Nu-metal is garbage and isn't generally accepted as an acceptable form of music, see Limp Bizkit etc.

Ricktus, how could you leave out two of the originals: Venom and Celtic Frost!I don't like black metal, but these names of some of the bands are hillarious! Is it just me, or does it sound like some of the bands are ripping off Marvel?? Venom?? LOL

Both legendary originators! Can't forget Kreator and Sepultura either. Those bands are mainly considered thrash, but their very early stuff is definitely more in a Black Metal vein. And yeah Notorious, most metal is actually pretty damn ridiculous. I always think of it as being pure over the top escapism. All the cliches (Death, Destruction, Rage, How damn 'metal' your band is etc); The sheer over the topness of the music; Guys in their 40's and beyond with tight trousers and long hair, pulling aggressive metal faces while they play lightening fast guitar solos. If you find the band names hilarious, you are on your way to loving it
The only reason I cannot stand too much metal is because there is too much hate in the music. I like the good ole american music, Sex, clubs, & Party music lol. Like T.I., T-Pain, Lil Wayne, Heavy D, LL Cool J, Hip Hop Musik. Something with a good beat, does not give you a headache from all the screaming in your ear drums. I do like some metal but old stuff, like Sabath, Kiss, Zeplin, Ozzy. altho they dont consider those as metal anymore, but now they are consitered classic rock. Except Ozzy, he is still classified in the Metal Genre, same with Sabbath, But Kiss and stuff is now considered Classic Rock.

But you see Notorious, that's one of the many stereotypes metal is given. What people don't seem to understand is metal is about fun. Bands like Cannibal Corpse whose lyrical themes revolve around extreme violence, are complete jokesters. They aren't to be taken that seriously. Are they focused on their music? yes, work hard? absolutely! But these guys are perfect examples of just a bunch of friends having fun. I've seen one of their DVD's, the vocalist, George Fisher plays world of warcraft all day. They love and appreciate their fans like no other. Sure you have your bands whose lyrics are based on hate, being tired of mankind etc. But overall, they are great guys who love nothing more than to create awesome music. Metal isn't about looking demonic like everyone assumes, it's about attitude, which is not necessarily a negative one. Sorry for the rant Notorious, I completely respect the fact you love your kind of music, we all have our preferred genre's. I'm just trying to clear some things up and show the positives about my music.
Kiss, which is one of my favorite metal bands dress demonic, KISS also stands for Knights In Satan's Suits.
