Different Opinions
« on: May 05, 2009, 02:11:26 PM »
I've been Sly for a few months now and I absolutely love it.  I have gotten some different reactions from friends and family.  At first, I was little bothered by some of them, but now I sorta like the different comments.  I'll explain:

My Wife - She loves the Sly look.  So, that is huge for me.  She actually likes it when I shave it slick and she also likes it with a few days of stubble.  I've gotten nothing but positive feedback from her.

My Dad - I work with my father and see him every day.  For some reason, he can never give me a compliment.  Anyways, he says that I look a little "sinister" with the shaved head.  I guess it was his nice way of saying that I look like a skinhead.  That kinda bothered me, but he's bald too.  So, I just blew it off as my dad being my dad.

Sister - My sister does not like the slick look, but she likes me with about 3 or 4 days of stubble.  I must admit that I look pretty cool with 3 day stubble.   O0  She's getting married this week.  So, I'm shaving on Wed morning, in order to have that 3 to 4 day stubble for the wedding.

Friends - My friends say that the shaved head makes me look "tough."  I was worried about their reaction, since they are usually pretty tough on me.  However, they all loved the look and asked what took me so long.

Strangers - I don't get a warm and fuzzy response from everyone.  However, I get more attention from women.  Not come-ons, but just friendly attention.  They give me a little extra look and I get better service at bars and restaurants.  It's not overly obvious, but enough that I have noticed a change.

So, my point in all of this is that I feel comfortable that whether I'm freshly shaven or sportin 4 day stubble, I'm generally getting good reviews.  At the end of the day, it all comes down to what I think.  I like it best when I'm nice and smooth.  So, I shave as much as possible.

Not really sure what the real point of this post was, other than to just express some feelings in a public forum.  Thanks for listening guys.

Welcome Bem75!!!  Everybody has an opinion.  There are only 2 that really matter, yours and your wife's...oh, and mine.  I think you look great.

Good to hear that you're comfortable with being sly. But don't worry, I have a sister as well who loathes the way I look bald, must be a sister thing.

I think that's all part of the fun! I feel great!!  In stead of being self conscience of my balding head that I can't do a thing about, I now feel like I'm saying,"Ya know what, I really don't think I care what anyone thinks." I guess even at my age I still have some left over rebellion!!!
It's all about attitude!

The coolest thing is that a couple of guys I know have now shaved their head also.  They told me that I inspired them to accept their MPB and go for it.  That made me feel good.

Awesome post. Couldn't agree more. You hit the proverbial nail on the bald head here. Daily or every 3 days...keep people guessing and do what YOU like best.  O0

Better than what I've got man:

Let me see..

"You have a peanut head."  from the wife.
5 minutes of non stop laughter from the xwife (was picking up my son for spring break.. shes didn't say one word.. just laughed).
"Are you one of those harree krishnas?" from some dude in the VA hospital when I did a 1 week PC installation gig there for Dell.
"You look old...." from my uncle who looks like hell in a handbasket himself..
OH!  But heres the good one from my cousin:
"You look intimidating!"  YES! Got a good one.. Wait... was that an insult or compliment?  CRAP...

Think I care?  Nah...

Oh I forgot!  from the committee chairperson for our cub scout pack:

"Oh I didn't notice you have one of those uhhh haircuts and... uhhh yeah."   She was giggling when she said this.  I just smiled and said "yeah, one of those haircuts...  Yeah-right-sure-anyways....

Did I comment that her smoking a cigarette in front of all the kids during the den meetings made her overbite/lack of chin more pronounced?  Nah...  Then you're no better than the people bustin on your dome.

Just smile and take it.  Ignore it, respond, whatever... Just don't lose your cool about stupid stuff like that.

Don't sweat the petty stuff
...but definitely don't pet the sweaty stuff either.
