on the fence
« on: April 29, 2009, 04:39:26 AM »
I seem to have lost my first post.... trying again.

I cant belive I actually made it here after several visits..... and so many years of being totally phobic about hair loss.

Im still sitting on that fence.

My hair seemed to be what made me who I am..... how I viewed my life,, my outlook,, and how others see me  So Its been a lot of years worrying and seeing it slowly go see through and receed. Now thinning crown means there are holes appearing all over........It really has dragged me down for so long.. some days I could throw up with stress..... like its got me cornered.

Reading here..... I know the options..... but that seems quite daunting for a longtime baldy phobic. I know this is not going to go away.. but it has had a baddddd effect on me for a big part of my life.......

No one in my close family has hair problems.... and I remember years ago someone saying.."we dont go bald"....  well I am....

I do know the options after reading on here  and it does help,,, so thanks !

A big welcome bluesy. Post up a pic and join in the banter. You have come to the right place if you have doubts of any kind. But, there is a saying in Scotland that if you sit on the fence for too long you will get skelf's in your ar*e  :o  O0

Welcome Bluesy.
I think at some time most of us was a baldy phobic, I was.
First you need to realize that your hair DOES NOT define who you are. If your lying in bed with someone with the lights out having a good conversation, do you think they are impressed by your hair?
You seem to be in the bad place, to where this is effecting your life and health, which is the bottom of the barrel my friend. You have about 2000 hands here ready to pull you up.
This is a major turning point for you and we understand that. You need to tell yourself that its just hair. You have had bad hair days, had to take care of it like a child, now its matured and time to set it free.
Because your family has no balding issues should tell you your special, you were picked because you are the one who can handle it and you need this to change your life. Its one of the greatest things I have ever done.
Its not an easy road, you will get different opinions, but we say wait 30 days before you grow hair back once you shave for a reason.... you will see the new you!
Find the freedom we all here experience, take the challenge and love yourself for it.
You hair will always grow back, your health is telling you to do this.
Feel free to PM me if you want.

On the fence, here's the deal. Give SLY the 30 day trial period. I bet you'll be satisfied. So take out a new razor and some shave cream and try being a SLY bald guy. Guaranteed you'll be addicted to the new bald you.  O0

Correct, and that's why "on the fence" needs to get "off the fence" and give SLY the 30 day trial period, satisfaction guaranteed. O0

Hey bluesy!

Welcome to SBG, buddy.  Glad to have you with us.

Take the time you need to get used to the idea of shaving the dome.  But I am certain you will not regret the choice once you take the step.

Posting a picture would help us give you more specific feedback, but just know we are here to support you.

Welcome Bluesy!

I recommend buzzing your hair down shorter and shorter over about a month period. Each week buzz it a little shorter, until you have just basically fuzz bythe fourth week.
Then give the razor and some good shave cream a go.

Transitioning slowly like this will give you and those around you time to get used to the changes as you go. Instead of one drastic change you'll have a series of minor changes thus lessening the shock.

Once shaved, definetly keep it for 30 days before you decide to go back to your old troublesome hair.

I know that it's hard to believe shaving a little bit of hair can be so liberating but believe us all.... it is.

Since we don't know your age or have a photo I will assume you are younger than me...I'll be 68 in July. About a year ago I got tired of widhing that my hair would stop falling out and laughed at my "Crusty the Clown" fenders with little on top. After going Sly, which was probably easier for me considering age, I've never been happier. One of the advantages I'm finding out about is this forum and these great fellow Slys. I hope to make one of these conventions but can't swing the one in New Orleans this year. The best of luck to you-to end it think Nike: JUST DO IT!
