hair shadow after I shave my head
« on: April 28, 2009, 03:12:05 AM »
Hey Guys , new slyguy and new to the head shaving world . This will be my second time that I have shaved my head, we'll actually my female friend did it for me both times. The second time i tried , which I started and ended up up cutting my head and calling her to do it with the front of my head half shaved lol.
Anyways I noticed that after I shave my head that i still have a sort of stubble shadow on my head
(see photo)  Natually I have thick brown hair.  I am not sure how to get my head like some of you guys have it with it nice and smooth shiny head without this shaow after shaving it totally down.? Thought about using some kind of hair removal cream , one for sensative skin , but not sure if that is a good idea.  Also thought about maybe buying a head blade and seeing if that would give me a close shave then just the department store disposable  razor.
  Any ideas on this ?

Welcome MM,

The good news is, you look great Sly.  The bad news is, as a guy with a lot of hair who wants to be BBC (Bald By Choice) you may have a shadow even after a good close shave.

Forget about hair removing chemicals, they will only cause you irritation.  Read some of the head shaving threads, get yourself a good new razor like a Mach 3 or Fusion (not disposables).  Do proper pre-shave prep and learn to shave carefully.  It will take a while, but you'll soon be happy with the results.

Cheers,

Red

Agree with Red... not going to be able to rid yourself of the shadow unless you go grey quickly.  As far as slick close shaves, I am a Headblade fan.  I never was pleased with how close I got with just a normal razor, but there was something about the Headblade that worked for me (and it's cheap).  You might want to try a better type of razor other than a disposable - Gillette Mach III, Schick Quattro, etc.  Every head is different, so experiment and see what ends up working for you.  Welcome aboard.
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

Welcome to the forum Michigan!  Any of us that are going bald by choice, that's what it looks like no matter how close of a shave we get. The guys you see that don't have any shadow are bald. They don't have a shadow because they don't have hair!

Or because they are light haired. Another thing that will get rid of the shadow is tweezing or waxing, I would never try either but thats me.

i know exactly what your talkin about michigan.  its like whats the point of being bald if the reciding hairline is still visible lol. i hate it.

ive used the mach 3 turbo and panasonic linear wet/dry(got me a close shave but lot of irritation).

ive used secret shaving oil, total shaving solution, and gillette senesitvie skin gel.

i just ordered some headblade products; headblade sport, headshed, headslick..etc..

i think this will work out, ive heard great things about headslick and the headblade gets you a close shave i believe.

I know, it would take forever. I think I saw some special thing for tweezing a scalp, it looked like a clamp with like 5 pair of tweezers in it. I have thought about doing it to part of my scalp so it doesnt look so dark but I dunno.

Yeah I don't think I would want to tweeze. And thank you all for the nice welcome into the brotherhood , even though I am technically not bald with this stupid shadow !! lol

Hey bro, welcome to SBG!  A lot of guys experience the shadow.  You're still considered Sly with us!  Try a better razor and some good shaving products and it could help reduce the shadow a bit.  Also, as your head gets more color, it will reduce the appearance of the shadow some.

Yea Mayhem, listen to the bro's. Unfortunately there's nothing you can really do about it. What I do is try to get my head as shiny as possible, it seems like it helps a bit. Light haired, and gray people are lucky because for them there is no shadow. Laser hair removal is also an option.
