It's hard when the folks get up in years to find anything unique for mom OR dad. So my siblings and I are going to redo a front garden that my mom has been wanting.

Well, I have no clue where my mom will be that day, or my day for that fact. They leave next thurs with the 5th wheel to drive across Canada for a month.
What makes Mother's Day complicated for me, is that My dads birthday is always a day or two away from Mother's Day, and then in June it's Father's Day, and my moms birthday is always a day or two away from that. Every so often, in the same year my dads birthday falls on Mother's Day and and my moms birthday falls on Father's Day, so then we just cancel everything out.

My parents bought a big property out in the country and moved out there 2 years ago now. Since they moved there they have been looking to buy a classic style cast iron wood stove.
So I started looking and doing some research and found a place in Detroit that deals fireplaces and all manners of wood stoves. I went by and bought one and will be loading it in my truck when I head up next week to see them off. Now the other thing is, they were also looking for just a small simple one for the garage/workshop that they're building this summer. I was also able to find an old used one for sale in the area, so I bought that one too!
So That'll be taking care of both Mother's and Father's Day gifts as well as their Birthdays.
They know I was looking for a stove for them, but they think that when I show up that I'll be bringing pictures and pamphlets for them to look through. They won't be expecting me to show up with 2 big cast iron wood stoves in my truck.

Depending on if the weather is nice we usually just have a big cook out ...on both days, mother and father's day. My mom always likes flowers for her yard so that is what we usually buy for her. WE keep it simple.

Well, as a lot of you know, my dear stepmom had a accident just recently. I am also paying off a lot of bills. But I always get her a card. Two years ago I got a cute stuffed bear that reminded me of her since it was dressed up as a lady gardener. My stepmom loves flowers. Almost always, I take her to my stepbrother's house for some kind of meal. This year, since she broke her shoulder, I am going to make a pot of homemade soup and homemade bread. It is simple, but she is not too hungry right now. So I am going to give her the gift of food and time. I will also probably get her a chai tea latte, which is her favorite Starbucks drink.

Mothers day kind of snuck up on me this year. I forgot all about it until today. My mom always says she wants flowers but complains when they die so I got her a dwarf azalea bush that she could keep as a house plant. I also got one for my grandmother because she just had a huge rhodedendron torn out and wanted a small one, azaleas are about the same.
Since I am leaving tomorrow for CA I told my mom I would do something special for her when I get back.
