I would try going with a close crew cut first or flat top for a while before going all the way. You have to remember your scalp will be really pale at first if you go all the way!! Try that and get some sun on your scalp before you go all the way!!!

Welcome Bill!
Try a buzz cut first if you're not sure about shaving.

Like the bros have said, buzz it for a little bit to test the waters. If you like it, go full on. If not, you dont seem to be in any danger of losing it.

It's something you have a choice about--once you thought about it you'll never be able to decide if the BBC look is right for you as a permanent or additional option in your appearance unless you try it. We have some guys on the forum who after 15 years have decided to return to the grown out hair look. For you BBC may not last or you could decide that the daily haircut is right for you. And, as you'll find if you look through all the posts here, for the overwhelming majority, the only regret is that they hadn't done it sooner. Generally speaking you get about 1/2" of hair in a month, so you could be back w/ hair relatively quickly. Just tune up the razor while you're buffing up the toned body, and try the full monty. A quote I found might give you more courage:
"There is more felicity on the far side of baldness than young men can possibly imagine. "

Hi Bill, you've obviously been thinking about doing this for a while otherwise you wouldn't keep coming around. I too thought about it long and hard and finally did shave but I went from flat to bald. So, go with a short flat or crewcut and then decide whether or not to do it.

Shave it!!! I'm a firm believer that you should try everything that's legal at least once in your life. Trust me - if you don't like it, it will grow back. You never know maybe your partner will like you being sly.

Hi Bill, welcome to SBG's. Glad you came in after lurking for so long.
I have to echo most of the bro's here. You won't know what it's like or how it feels until you do finally shave.
If you feel it would be too dramatic a change, go the short buzz route to see if you like it, and if it fits for you.
Good luck with your decision, and if you do go for it, post a pic.

I personally think shaving your head is something every male should experience at least once. If you don't like it, grow it back! If you do, well, keep it shaved.

Hey man. welcome from behind the shadows.
I agree with most here that say coming from full head of full hair to total shaved would be a cruel trick. In your case I'd go gradual if you decide you want to try it out. Buzz it tighter and tighter as the summer goes or over the course of a month or two. You'll quickly find your comfort zone, and if you happen to go too short, going in stages will allow you to get back to the comfort zone quicker. If you went total sly, that would be a while before you and your partner were happy with it again.
Just some thoughts. Stick around. You obviously enjoy the look... the guys here are the best! Enjoy the site with the lights on, instead of lurking back there in the dark. Most of us don't bite...

Just start with a #4 buzz, and buzz it shorter gradually until you use a razor and shaving cream.
Definitely eases the anticipation of peoples reactions.

Hey man. It's your choice whether or not to shave of course. I'm BBC, was hair today, gone tomorrow. I didn't ease into anything, but I was looking for a drastic change. I have to say in the past I have had very short haircuts (military) but going the full montey is a totally different thing. It's hard to describe the feeling I got the first time I ran my hand over my slick hairless head. It was intense and strangely empowering. I feel I now exude all of the confidence I have always had inside, as if the hair was somehow stopping other people from seeing it. People tend notice you more and if you don't assure them that you're a decent guy (by smiling) they can be intimidated by you at first. So it's always worth a try, and it'll grow back too so... Oh and use sunscreen for a while. Filtered sunlight is your friend until you get a little melan pigment to that white scalp.

It sounds to me like you're not really ready to go bald. You'll know when & if the time is right. If the time is ever "right", you'll just take clippers to your head & then go from there without alot of thinking about it.
Good Luck with it!!!!

I love my slick head. However, if I had a head full of hair likes yours I wouldn't be cutting it off. Although, as you've already heard on here, if you have been itching to see what it looks like slick, then go for it. It will always grow back. Although I would agree with others and take it in stages by buzzing it first so it won't be quite a shock..
