Ward's Reviews - Citizen Smooth Shave Cream
« on: March 22, 2009, 01:41:13 PM »
So after trying out this sample cream for a few days, I've decided to do a official review.

Ease of lathering: This particular cream is all-natural based, so it doesn't have a any latherability. I found it was best to apply it to head with wet hands. The texture is a bit more runny, which makes it ideal for shower shaves.

Life span of lather: I seemed to have to re-apply the cream before each pass (I do 3 total). This is where having a lather cream comes in handy, because you can use less cream per shave and the lather stays with you longer during your shave.

Moisturizing: This cream does wonders to the appearance of your head. Even with 3 shaves, I could tell a positive difference.

Lubrication: This is where the shave cream really shines. This cream is slick as hell. I actually could barely feel the razor passing against my head. Very weird, but totally amazing.

How protective?: By far the least irritating shaves I've had since I began shaving my head. This cream is a must for people with sensative skin.

Scent: There is a strong minty scent to this cream. It first reminded me to toothpaste. Definatly not a fake smell, but very natural and refreshing.

Price: A bit expensive, but I think the quality ingredients in the cream are unsurpassed.

Would you buy again?: It was a sample, so I'm going to leave this out of the factoring.

Ease of lathering - 1/10

Life span of lather - 1/10

Moisturizing - 10/10

Lubrication - 10/10

How protective? - 10/10

Scent - 9/10

Price - 6/10

Would you buy again? x

Overall: 6.5/10

I have been using my sample for the last 4 days and I must say that I am very impressed.  It gives a very good and close shave.  I am totally sold on Bald Guyz Shave Gel so I will have to see if this wins me over... It will take alot to do that.

Your welcome.

I shaved again today. Like I said in my review, I am not a fan of the texture and lack of lather. However, I used Citizen Smooth on my face and I got a super-smooth, close shave. I usually always get face irritation after a shave. The skin protection of this cream is amazing.

Good review.  I tried this stuff for the first time last night.  I'm not going to review it yet because I had one of those bad shaves.  It has happened with other shave creams as well.  So, I'm not going to blame the CS cream for this bad shave.  Will give it a fair review shortly.

Great stuff. Was a little worried about it at first because it didn't feel thick or slick enough but don't let that fool you.  I got a fantastic couple of shaves and I am definitely going to buy it again in the future once I'm out of Head Slick.  Thanks for the free sample, I'm sold.

I got my sample of Citizen Smooth yesterday.  I used it in the shower today.  I am used to using HeadSlick and Kiss My Face where I have had to  use only a small amount to get a decent shave.  So consider this review to be unofficial.  I did like the minty smell of Citizen Smooth.  While I knew it wouldn't lather, I didn't get the best shave.  Maybe tomorrow, I will use more lotion and make sure I have a fresh razor.  So hopefully I can give a better review!

Well, I gave Citizen Smooth a second try.  I used more and made sure my head was totally wet and I used a fresh razor.  Unfortunately, it did not give me what I wanted in a shave.  There are some areas that seem pretty smooth.  But I seem to end up with more areas of what I call, "micro stubble".  I can't get used to the fact that it does not seem slick.  It seems like I am putting toothpaste on my bean because of the texture and not just the smell.  I actually like the smell.  But it also seemed to dry my head out.  I like my head to feel smooth and shiny.  I even applied some HeadLube and my head still has a weird feel to it.  I really hate to give bad reviews, but in this case I must!   :'(   :-[   But it also could be just a case of my skin and hair type just not working for it.  Just like some of us love the HeadBlade and for others, it just doesn't work!

Marsh.  it sounds like you are using too much water.  I have found that it works best for me when my head is just slightly damp and I smear little dab of the cream and let it sit for a minute or two.

I'm going to have to go with Marsh here. I do love the smell and head my head felt ok when done, but I'm not getting any slickness and I'm not liking the texture. Its hard to shave with, there's way to much drag and I have to take it much slower than I'm used to doing. I have even tried it with some oil and its not any better. I do wonder if it has to do with the water here in FL, our water here is horrible, I have noticed differences when I was traveling, just not this bad.

I think this might be good for some but just not for me, I do thank you for the opportunity to try it out.

Have to go with the majority of reviews on this one. Lubrication and moisturizing protection is a plus on this product, but it does falls short of expectations in other areas. After my first shave or two using this product solo, I have taken the remainder of my sample pac and mixing in a bit with my Bald Guyz Gel, or the "gel of the day" that I happen to be using. I also dislike to give negative reviews on any product, but, sometimes, in rare occasions, the negative reviews may cause the company to improve on the product.

Great insight noodles. Although it has some great benefits in terms of protection; the cream is hard to handle and messy when it gets wet. If the CS shave cream produced a great later on a shave brush, I'd totally be in; as that's its main flaw IMO.
