Sly in the jury box

Obviously, I can't discuss any details of the case until it's over, but yet more sly sightings.

The defendant is sly, as was one of the witnesses, and there's a court officer that keeps coming in and out of the courtroom who is sly.

I've never seen so many shiny heads in one room!

Our judge could use the sly treatment;  a retired judge filling in for another on vacation with a gray horseshoe that's cut too long.

Today, there were two separate spectators that were sly.

The case has been rested. Tomorrow we deliberate.

Having been locked in the jury room all day deliberating, no new sly sightings today. The beat goes on tomorrow...

Dang! We're finally done. 10:00PM Friday evening.

It was a very educational and informative experience. Also one that took a great emotional toll.

It's really hard to be witness to so much human tragedy, especially so much needless violence. And then to sit in judgement of another person, as well as assign penalty.

Luckily, the jury was packed with people of high integrity, and while that made for spirited and lengthy deliberations, I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Oh, and two more sly sightings today. The defendant, already in custody since August, was always guarded by two sheriff's deputies that rotated out every few hours. Two of today's deputies were gloriously sly.

Hey Bootedbear:  I would love to read your account of the trial and especially the jury deliberations.  As mentioned in an earlier post, I am a district judge.  I often sit through trials but never get the "inner sanctum" view of the jury deliberations. 

I think it would be fascinating to hear what a jury talks about, personal biases, what the lawyers think is important that the jury does not think is important, etc.  So yes, please post or if your don't want to do that, send it to me in an e-mail.
