Sly in the jury box

OK, so I was called to jury duty today. Out of 60 people who showed up, there were no less than 6 sly guys.

There were also 3 guys with really bad comb-overs, one with a comb-over and a pony-tail (most probably the most pathetic combination short of a comb-over mullet).

Out of this 12 jurors were seated, and 2 of the 4 guys seated are sly.

Oh yeah, I'm one of them. Guess what I get to do for the rest of the week?

We had a thread on jury duty a while back.
The conclusion was that sly guys are considered independent thinkers, thus not well thought of by counsel.

I really wish I was selected for jury duty. Unfortunately, the prosecuting attorney didn't care for my kind (college educated, CPA, SLY) and I was dismissed. Bummer.

If you just ask the average taxpayer, they say courts are too slow, not efficient, etc., etc., but ask the same taxpayer if they would pay more taxes to boost jury fees, pay for more personnel to move the paper, build more court rooms, etc., and the response is always no--which is at least honest, or they think there's "fat" to be cut.  From my experience in gov't I didn't find "fat" what I found were areas of spending that had big interest groups that had organized.  So, (1)-there needs to be more money in the court system, and (2) to the extent people won't pay more taxes, they must organize, and out organize other interest groups to get more of the available money into the court system then jury fees can more adequately reimburse people for a bigger part of their expense in doing their duty as American citizens--it's a duty just like serving in the military, voting and yes, paying taxes. 
Sorry, I don't mean to point a finger at you or anyone in particular but it's important for all people to understand representative government requires people to get in the boat and man an oar--standing on the shore b_tching just doesn't cut it in my opinion.  It's not "politics"  that is elections, it's "governance", making it work between elections.  Lots of people don't think that through.

Be interested to know what kind of case you are on BB. I was on one several years back for dental malpractice. Learned everything about what can go wrong with the human mouth that I did not want to know. We found the dentist not guilty as the plantiff evidently had rarely taken the time to put a toothbrush in his mouth during his life. I remember if looks could have killed we would have all dropped dead from that "ambulance chasing attorney's" glare. Guess we cost him a country club membership.

Obviously, I can't discuss any details of the case until it's over, but yet more sly sightings.

The defendant is sly, as was one of the witnesses, and there's a court officer that keeps coming in and out of the courtroom who is sly.

I've never seen so many shiny heads in one room!

saintc....so then why not just keep the damn $9 ?  why even spend the money writing the check to pay us.  Just add it as payment to my property taxes.....

In our local courtroom, I find that SLY jurors and attorneys are gladly accepted.  I also believe that SLY jurors are usually well educated and are independent thinkers who have an uncanny ability to assess and analyze difficult situations.

Then again, maybe I am biased, since I am the district judge.
