OLIVE OIL

I been letting my razor sit in olive oil. I saw it on the today show.The guy claims it helps with the life of the blade.I`m not sure if it will work,but one thing I found out.DAMN I got a great shave!!!!! The razor glided over my head like glass. This was one of the few times I didn`t have to go back over my head for miss spots.

Interesting.  I may have to try that.  When I saw the topic I thought you were using Olive Oil.

Hmmm... interesting....having an archeology background I am always impressed with the many uses of olive oil.  The Romans used it for bathing.  Lathered up in it (with the aid of a slave of the gender of your choice ;)) the were then scrapped off using a wooden razor like tool.  The gathered sludge, especially taken from gladiators, was used as a perfume for woman!  Nice.  I wonder if a thinned olive oil might not be used for shaving?  Infused with herbs and essential oils?  Hmmmm.  Call it Gladious....hmmmm.

I have a rather large whetstone for my straight razor.  Wonder if it will work on my Fusion blades.  It is a 10,000 grit on one side and 4,000 on the other.  I know you can get up to 30,000 grit at classicshaving.com, but 10,000 seems sufficient.  ANything over 6,000 grit puts a mirror on the straight razor.  I could try stropping them as well, but somehow I don't think that will be so easy to do.

There's a little gizmo on infomercials that is supposed to strope/sharpen everything but straights already. Can't remember the name though bro.

I figured I would give what I had onhand a try.  The wetstone does not work with the Fusion blades though.  The blades are recessed as compared to the frame around them - not much, but enough to prevent the use of a wetstone.  You end up wearing off the strips, but never touching the blades.

Since I just switched to a new blade yesterday, I immediately started the olive oil trick to see how that works.  Since I get about a week before the blade starts to feel rough, i will be able to provide an update next week.

I also tried the baby oil under the shave gel.  I can't say that it gave me any closer shave.  And it felt just as smooth as using the Bald Guys shave gel by itself on a wet head.  It was a bit more of a mess as oil is more difficult to clean up.  But maybe I am going about the oil thing all wrong.  I have never used a shaving oil before.  Anyone have any tips?
