The only thing I have ever read was to determine if you were loosing more hair than you naturally should be. But I don't remember all of it. But no way to tell what you are looking for.

Right now you've got two choices: (1) keep your head shaved and stop worrying about the hair loss or (2) grow your hair back and keep obsessing about how much hair you're losing, shave it again, grow it back and so on and so on. Having personally tried both methods, I strongly recommend option #1.

There's no way to know how much hair you're going to lose or how fast it will go. But the general rule of thumb is, the younger you are the more hair you're likely to lose. So at age 20, I'd say you're probably going to lose quite a lot of hair. A bald head is infinitely preferable to a thinning one. You've already done the hard part and shaved it -- so just enjoy it and work on the confidence thing.
I know it's not a perfect solution but it's the best option available to you. Going back to your pre-thinning hair is
not an option, no matter how much you may wish it were. You have to let go of that old image of yourself and then concentrate on the options that are left. And really, the shaved head is the only good option. It looks good on you, so just hang in there. Concentrate on improving things that you have some control over -- upgrade your wardrobe, join a gym and get in better shape, etc (not saying you need to do this, it's just a good recommendation for people in general).

What you might have heard about- there is a machine that can show you how much hair you are currently losing. For example, if a man goes in for a hair replacement consultation, they can run this little microscopic pen over the head to analyze exactly where the thinning areas are located. It basically just analyzes density. However, in no way would this predict future loss. It's simply an analysis of current hair loss. When a young guy approaches me at the pharmacy asking about hair loss options I always try to emphasize this point about hair transplants- you really don't know how much hair you are going to lose. If a guy is wanting transplants, I try to get hm to wait until atleast the late 30's when losses will be more predictable.

I wouldnt even recommend him to wait until he is 30. I would walk him right over to the shaving aisle and say here are your choices!....

I have to admit that I went through a period of being really pissed off when I knew that my hair loss was substantial. So I certainly have some empathy with what you're feeling.
BUT
You know, Ghost, I think that shaving the dome is the perfect option for you. You look real badass, man. What's the problem? Relax and enjoy it.

Ghost, for some time you have been down on yourself for your loss of hair. It is no big thing! It's only hair. It does not reflect who you are. That comes from inside. Personally, I think you are a badass looking guy. Only, post a picture with a big smile on that face. Keep it there and your attitude will change for the better. There are worse things in life that hair loss. Think how you would feel if you lost a limb or was in an accident that scared you for life. Kind of puts things in perspective, don't you think? I don't want to come down on you but you have friends and family that love you, embrace life to the fullest Enjoy you blessings and not your losses.

Yeah Ghost, agree with the rest of the fellas here, I'm only a few years older than you and it was very hard for a while not knowing when it would stop...living in denial...once I stopped worrying about it and just accepted that it will all go eventually I felt heaps better...actually i'm thinking of going the lazer route one day, just so the color evens out....

It's called Male Pattern Baldness because it follows a pattern. How it ends up is pretty consistent. How long it takes depends, but mainly it depends on when you start to lose hair. You started young, but you already know that. The shaved look works for you, but you still seem kind of miserable.
If you are considering involving a doctor, try this self-evaluation for depression. Things can happen in the brain that make small problems feel bigger than they need to be. At least this test will give you some perspective on whether it's just one thing that's bothering you or if this one thing is a symptom of something bigger.

Ghost, don't get too hung up on it. No way to tell how it will go. My hairline was like that way back in college in the late 80's. It hasn't really gotten any worse since. From about 17 to 20 I lost a lot of hair and that it seriously hasn't changed much in the following 20 years. I shave my head a couple of times back then. Back then they thought you might have a mental problem if you shaved your head. Anyway, you look awesome with the sly look, so relax and enjoy.

thats seriously great to know buzz. i was looking for SOMEONE to tell me theres a small chance that i wont go COMPLETELY bald. ive had this hairline for the past 3 years and it hasnt gotten much worse at all. people tell me all the time though that im automatically going to go completely bald so that kinda sunk in my head. now if i can keep both possibilities in my head i can live with a little ease.
