ive noticed something since i started goin sly.
« on: January 22, 2009, 09:57:01 PM »
when im out in public i start staring at other sly guys heads to see if i can notice a shadow or determine if they are BBC or have MPB. its almost like a habit i cant stop. Before i started shaving my head, let alone losing my hair, a bald guy was just a bald guy to me and i didnt look at him any differently. in fact, i never even noticed a shadow cuz i never thought twice about it when i looked at them, they were just "shaved" or "bald". its weird how im so fascinated now.

anyone else notice that they pay more attention to other sly guys heads since goin sly themselves?

Yeah I do it, and I often stare too long, and afterwards I think I shouldn't have done that, it's rude and potentially hurtful! I mostly stare at the heads of chaps who are balding but haven't shaved it, and why wonder why on earth not.

If I pass one there's usually a slight nod of the head in acknowledgment but as for looking for MPB? No, never.

I need to vent. I still don't get how BBC and MPB acronyms go together. Common sense tells me if you make the effort to shave your head you're bald by choice. Sure I have male pattern baldness but I certainly DON'T HAVE TO SHAVE MY HEAD and I usually don't, I use clippers. Some people just have less to shave DUE TO MPB. Damn that annoys the hell out of me. I wish someone would come up with new acronyms that are consistent if a comparison is going to be made constantly. While I understand the comparison and the desire for some people to know and label, I do wish for a more intelligent description on why people shave their heads. Sorry Ghost but this chaps my ass every time I see it.

Amen to that Cheese, enough already with the acronyms. Who really cares?    :/O

We shave our heads, that's all that matters.

Ghost1998, I spend so much time getting my melon smooth and shiny I just can help noticing some other dude with an equally "blindy" melon. Usually never say anything to them, but yeh I wonder how they achieve near shadow free perfection.

You hit the nail right on the head rafter.  I guess you could say that I am a little obsessed with a smooth, slick head.

Yes I have found myself noticing other clipper shaved and razor shaved heads also. While I think I look good clipper shaved, I think I notice to evaluate whether or not I think other people look good shaved, and thereby by extension that I am not alone in this situation and how I am handling it, by having a tight buzz. Put another way, if I think other guys look good clipper shaved, then I am more comfortable having a clipper shave and that it's a good choice for me.  In fact, my barber and my wife both suggested around the same time that I should consider a buzz cut, as the mpb advanced and I was heading toward a pretty sparse combover look.

Absolutely not, as long as there are beautiful women out there I don't need to stare at sly guys heads.   ;D

PofC: Do you mind if I ask what type clippers you use and what blade length, if your clipper has adjustable or interchangeable blades? I bought an inexpensive Conair beard trimmer in a drugstore that seems to do OK.  Its closest setting a called a "2 day shave look". I use the #1 blade or the setting between the #1 and the "2 day shave look" mostly, although I have used the shortest setting.  The #1 head is a bit small, so I need to be sure that I do not miss patches, especially in the back.  I figured that if I really got into self clipping all the time, I might move up to something better. Any suggestions?

I am a straight up bald creep- I stare at everyone's head, whether they are thick, thin, bald whatever. I nod at sly people if I feel it's appropriate. Just a habit

jmc, I give a nod too. More often than not it's a nod in response to a nod.

Hey Clipped, sorry for the belated response. Right now I'm simply using the trimmer on the back of my Braun. Takes it to the bone and has never nicked me. Blades are getting dull so I think I'm going to pic up the Wahl baldfader. Sounds like that should do the trick. In the summer I'll probably just shave but it'll still be nice to have a good set of trimmer/clippers around.
