New here, new to shaving my head

Hello all! I just stumbled across this forum and decided to join.

I've been struggling with a receding hairline for 2-3 years now, I am about to turn 23. I suppose my hairline isnt all that bad but it seems worse to me than it really is at times and I feel like people stare at it. My girlfriend has been very supportive and has been encouraging me to shave my head for the past year and a half. I kept my hair at pretty short anyways but new years day I finally decided to shave it so I grabbed my clippers and buzzed it down to stubble. I have been keeping it like this because I kind of like the "shadow" look, so I have just been trimming it down again with the clippers every few days. I go back and forth on whether or not I like this look or not, but I figure ultimately I have no choice and I might as well get used to it now. I do like how easy and care free having a shaved head is though.

Hey Brian, welcome to the forum. I like the stubble look on myself as well. I still shave it but not nearly as much as I did during the hot summer. I like using a no cut clipper without a guard just about every other day, 3 days max.

What do you mean by a no cut clipper?

Some clippers when pressed against the scull have the ability to tear out a nice chunk if not careful. I use a clipper that I can put pressure on against my noggin and it won't cut me. Rounded ends I guess. It's nothing fancy but since my clipper incident of '05 I'm very careful about what kind of clipper touches my dome.

I often use the edger on the end of my braun electric razor. I can buzz my head and face without a mirror and have never cut myself with it. Try that with a $20 pair of shears from K-Mart.

I figured thats what you meant but wasnt 100% sure. I have some wahl designer clippers that I bought a couple years ago and I press pretty hard and having had any knicks yet. The other day I used my little battery powered wahl peanut trimmer and it got a little closer than the clippers, I got some razor burn on the nape of my neck though.

You took a big step by shaving it down to stubble.  You'll get used to it, and soon enough will probably go the sly route.
And as far as people staring at your hairline - they will if your nervous about it.  But confidence will throw that trivial trash out the window.

The hairline thing isnt noticeable now since its so short, but when I kept it at a #4 it felt like everyone was staring. I wish I would have done this sooner.

I have been thinking about going to the next step and actually shaving it with my mach 3 but that intimidates me a little for some odd reason.

i have the same hairline prob as you. i dont have the horshoe baldness but i have a VERY thin hairline. its basically just a little strip that comes down the middle of my forehead. anyways....just shave your head smooth if it bugs you and no one will notice as much as if you just buzz it. especially in the sun.

Now that its buzzed down it doesnt bother me. Thank you for the advice though.

So I just decided to shave my head with my norelco electric razor, the kind with 3 flexible rotation heads, and it came out pretty well. Is there any problem with this method? It seems quicker and easier than using a mach 3 or headblade.
