Shampoo
« on: January 10, 2009, 11:28:35 AM »
I did a search and couldn't find much on this subject (not surprising since this is forum is about guys without hair) but I found something out recently and wanted to see if anyone else noticed. Before what I would do is using regular soap I would lather up one of those nylon body puffs and give my head a good buffing. This was to help smooth the scalp out as well as help it shine better. I thought maybe, since shampoo is made for the head I'd use some on the puff instead. I get a much smoother and softer scalp now. Anyone else use shampoo on their noggin or found it works better than regular soap?

I use to use Bald Guyz shampoo on my head and thought it did a good job, but since the stores around here quit carrying it I went back to regular soap. I use Dove mosturizing soap and it seems to do a decent job of keeping my noggin happy !!    O0

I still had a bottle of the "Thicken" shampoo and a couple of weeks ago I started using it in the hope that it would add some more water to the stubble and make it more "available" and softer to the blade.  I liked it, and now also finish with some Thicken conditioner and then cover w/l a hot wash cloth, and apply the shaving gel or Headslick and baby oil when I take off the cloth after shaving my face.  It seems to give the stubble some more volume and makes it easier for my Fusion to give me an even cleaner 12 hour smooth head.  It's a keeper for me--except that traveling I'll have to use what's at the hotel--and that will be another experience.

With us who shave their heads I wouldn't think shampoo is overtly better than a good soap bar though can help in some instances.

For the majority as said, a gentle soap like Dove, Cetaphil or good anti bacterial soap should be fine.

For those who have an oily scalp or sport a buzz don't have to but can try a clarifying shampoo like

Suave Clarifying shampoo – cheap
Menu-U scalp wash -  concentrated gel, last ages

These will regularly keep the gunk off your head.

For severe cases if you've got issues like the above or irritation, pimples then something like

Head & Shoulder with Hydra Zinc – Good for Pityrosporum Folliculitis
BaldGuyz Wash – not exactly sure what about this works but it works in helping the scalp keep clear.

a Tea tree shampoo like American Crew Tea tree shampoo –  great for oily scalp,      irritation like pimples and such

Trumpers Valerian Shampoo - Only mentioned it coz I got it part of a Christmas present but like the above ,works as a soothing wash against scalp irritation.

Like I said though this isn't really required for the majority of us and isn't definitive, there's similar stuff out there to these things.
