One month sly...an update (picture included)

Hey guys,

I haven't posted much at all since I joined you guys when I first went sly (one month now), but I figured I’d save my contribution until after I’d had the head shaved for a while and shown my family and friends the look to get some reactions. Incase you didn’t read my first post; I am 21 and have been losing my hair since I was 18, and recently took the step of head shaving.

I have had a range of reactions, mostly positive, some indifference (as in no comment at all) and one negative remark in the form of "why did you do it?", which to me is a judgement in itself, but all told it doesn't matter namely because I have begun to feel content with the look myself.

The biggest hurdle for me was getting used to the shadow, as for me I knew it would impact on how I felt about the look. For the first couple of weeks I was conscious of it, but it has slowly eroded as I realise that there's nothing I can do about it, and it’s not nearly as noticeable to everyone around me as it is to me. Even if it is, so what? It looks tons better than having lifeless thin hair in my view.

Friends have been pretty complimentary, and it didn’t at all change my status with any woman I’ve been involved with before shaving, in fact I’ve had compliments on that front too. As has been espoused here hundreds of times, it really is about confidence and how you carry yourself.

Really, for the first time in a while i'm beginning to feel comfortable with my hair (and now lack of it), and i'm getting to the stage that I hoped to be in by shaving, in that its all starting to matter so much less to me than it did before. I understand the insecurity that hair loss can cause, and having no one my age that I associate with having the same issue, it was a struggle to accept the reality. But its here, and I feel like that chapter is coming to a close, and that's fine by me.

Basically, to sum it up - im glad I did it. Hair loss has been an experience that has come to me young, but it’s forced me to confront myself in a way that any other experience I’ve had to date has had. It challenged how I perceive myself, and has also had a positive impact in my attitude generally on how I perceive others. Shaving the head I suppose was the end of that process, and I hope to use these lessons to my advantage. So that’s it, I attached a picture so you could see the result.

Looking good man.     Here is the thing bro.   I like to be realisitc about things.  It is true that hairloss is not fun, especially at the beginning stages.  But the things is, every single person in this life has some type of problem that they are not happy with.  So I tell myself that thank God it's only hairloss.  What if it were losing a leg, an eye, or an arm?  I can live without hair but I cannot live without an arm or an eye.  So, things could have been a lot worse.  True, they could have also been a lot better, but even with hair one would still have some problems in life whether it be a loved one passing away, etc.

Smart piece of writing there my friend. It's great to see you have freed yourself from the tyranny of bad hair. Even though I know little about you, I feel confident in saying you are and will continue to make an excellent role model. Congrats man.
