It looks good on top, but...

So, I have this shiny head and it is o.k. and I'm used to it.  In fact, I think I like it.  It is who I am.   However, living in Florida, close to the beach, it is hard to want to go... the hair that was on top on my head has decided to grow on the back.  It bothers me more than it should and hate it. 

Anyone else with this problem?  What do you do? 

Shave, wax, lazer, leave it alone?

Shaving is easiest, waxing lasts a couple of weeks and is painful and costs.  Depends on what you want do to handle this issue.  Getting rid of it is a common reaction, no matter how it's done.

If it bothers you, do something about it.   I had my back lasered.  It was expensive and not without discomfort.  It's been two years since the last treatment and I'm starting to have some regrowth.   I don't have the money, or frankly, the desire to go through all that again.  I may get it waxed at some point in the future.

It can be very uncomfortable, depending on the texture of the hair.  My chest was covered with a very dense layer (think Austin Powers) of very wiry hair.  It was constantly itching me.  I didn't have as much on the back, but it still caused some discomfort.  The laser pretty much eliminated the back hair (at least temporarily) and got the chest hair down to a more normal level and it doesn't itch anymore.

Interesting... I know lot's of well-furred guys and that's the first I've heard of it causing discomfort. That is, of course, a completely different matter.

I've done the shaving thing a few times and it's o.k.  It is actually itchy for a couple of days when it grows back.  My wife waxed it one time and it was too painful.  Plus, the area that I waxed became very irritated and pimply.

My whole body is covered with hair. I don't have a problem with it, but on the other hand I don't walk around on the beach etc either. I think it bothers the younger guys mostly who want to look buff on the beach or wherever. Maybe I'm wrong with thinking that, but most of the guys I hang with who are in their 50's and 60's aren't concerned with back hair etc...

I've got a hairy back and chest, but said "To heck with it".  It's how I was made.

While I am not the "Austin Powers" type of hairy, I am pretty hairy with a fairly even distribution of hair all over my chest, stomach and back.  The only place on my back that is not hairy is my shoulder blade and the top of my shoulders.  Fortunately, I have no discomfort from my body hair.  I actually like my body hair and think that the contrast of my hairy body and face with the balding, shaved head is a very manly look.  To each their own in terms of embracing their body hair.  But when I had a operation a few years back, the stomach hair did itch when it grew back.

Hi shinyinflorida, english is my 3rd language so let me ask you if I understand you.  Are you saying you are haing unwanted hair on your back?

If so, why not get it removed PERMANENTLY by electrolysis?  It might be a bit expensive but it's worth every penny.  Contact one of the best practitioners in your area and get a consultation.   It will not hurt too much if your practitioner is good. 
This is permanent hair removal and it takes 9 to 18 months for most people but laser hair removal is NOT permanent as it is commonly believed (that's why Razorx is seeing some regrowth).   
There is a great discussion forum on hair removal (look in particular in the electrolysis section).  The people there offer great advice and you can check in previous posts for stories similar to yours.

Thanks for the posts.  Still thinking about what I want to do.  By the time I have money to do anything about it, I probably will learn to come to terms with it.

I don't think they'll do electrolysis on such a large area as the back.  Don't the hairs have to be removed one by one with a needle?  It would take forever.  Also sounds painful.

You could try nair, but that stuff smells like sh*t and is uncomfortable and itchy so I would not recmend it. Good Luck.

hey shinyinflorida:  welcome 2 the sly fraternity.  glad 2 C another florida chrome dome.  headshaving is probably the easiest, cheapest, & less invasive way 2 keep the dome smoooooth.  give me my fusion (manual) & i'm good 2 go.
