CC Sabathia, good or bad for yankees?
« on: December 11, 2008, 04:45:47 PM »
Hey guys,
First I should say I'm not a fan of the New York Yankees (I am a Blue Jays fan).   What do you guys think
about Sabathia joining yankees?  I think he's a great pitcher but I don't think he's playoff material.  Yankees
need someone who can pitch during playoffs and Sabathia doesn't have a good history.

I think that's way too much money to pay a pitcher that will probably get about 35 starts.

If you're going to pay that kind of money ($23 million per year) pay it to a position player that is going to play about 140-150 games per year.

exactly, $23 million is way too much..............but I guess it will be worth it from Yankees point of view
if he performs well in post-season.  If he doesn't then honestly you just wasted 23 miliion.   Remember
the yankees do well during the season anyway so they want a guy who can win in playoff games.
We already saw the frustrations yankee fans had (and still have) about A-Rod playing like crap in october.

Yankee fan here. They paid him to get a stopper. Whitey Ford, Catfish Hunter and Ron Guidry were stoppers. We havent had one in 10 years.

As a fan of a team with a lesser payroll (Oakland A's), it's tough to see the rich get richer. Then again, the NYY do pay a luxury tax and apparently have no issue with that. Sabathia is from my area and I know he wanted to return to California, but no one in their right mind would turn down that kind of $$, even though it is not in your first choice location.

As far as whether or not it's good for baseball, I'm indifferent to that.

The Yanks just can't seem to get  thru their heads that you can't buy a championship.

I think its just another high priced pitcher that will fail them when he is needed.

And how can you go to the city and ask for more money for the stadium and then spend it on a pitcher????????

It's an insane amount of money but if they want to offer it..................the yankees always make the big free agent splash.  I may be old fasioned but I still believe that you cannot buy a world series ring!

I don't know about baseball but I can relate to the high price tag!

In the English Premier League (Football, or Soccer to you dudes) A team called Manchester City just payed £32MILLION for Brazilian Robinho (Thats GBP, so about $64Million USD)!
It irritated me because I am a fan of a much lower budget team (The Mighty West Ham) and it almost makes it impossible for them and other poorer teams to compete!!

All this talk about Sabathia and the Yankees??
What about NY's step child the Mets and their new and expensive aquisition, Francisco Rodriguez.
Will K- Rod be good or bad for the Mets?
