Maybe the perfect shave!
« on: December 04, 2008, 11:36:34 AM »
Well Guys

I started shaving my head in the bath last week and it feels great. O0 I have tried both the shower (too many cuts :Xo!) and the sink (not enough heat/steam) but the bath rocks. 8)

My routine is as follows:

1. Fill the bath with water to your liking. On entry soak the head underwater for a minute or so. With the steam build up in the bathroom the head gets hot pretty quick.

2. Lather the dome with foam/gel and let it settle for a few minutes.

3. Can use a small mirror for guidance and just shave from front to back or otherwise.

4. After the first shave you can just duck head under water to keep the dome hot.

5.  More foam/gel and shave again.

6. Touch up the dome lightly on stubble that is missed.

7. Duck underwater again for another hot rinse (love the ducking ;D).

8. Then, I use a shower head attached to the taps to cool the dome with really cold water. This feels better than the shower/sink approach as you can stay in the heat of the bath with the head only being cooled.

9. Apply some baby lotion. Feels great on the dome after the cold water. Then, alcohol on the blade for longetivity & rinse the bath (takes seconds).

10. Path the dome with a towel and apply a moisturiser.

Well that's it. It is so conveinent you could read the paper or watch TV if you are wealthy enough to have one in the bathroom. The only drawback if you want to call it that is the time of the day. It doesn't seem to be a conveinent time for the morning but in the evening after a hard day it feels great!

Anybody try it and what do you think?

Cheers Guys!

Hey ripped53

I went to the dermatologist yesterday and he put me on a lotion for the rash/bumps. His diagnosis of my dome was folliculitis - the inflammation was more mechanical than anything else. He felt shaving in the bath with all the steam/heat was a good idea. O0

Anyway, it is a 6 month course of the lotion post-shaving. Finally, I hope to see some results.

Cheers!

Hey Irish, hope your good.

Glad to hear about the derm visit. Let's hope it's on the up now  O0

Other than the sink I always favour bathing and shaving, can be a tad long winded though.

Hi Shaf

Yea, hopefully the lotion will do the trick.

Also, for anyone with a sensitive scalp here are a few pointers from the dermatologist.

1. Shaving oils or gels work better than the foams (which I usually use).
So, I will switch to a gel and see how it works.

2. Keep the dome relatively hot at all times during the shave (bath is good for this), and make the shave as smooth as possible.

3. Cold water rinse post-shave.

4. An aqueous moisturiser with no salicyclic acid (I found this out myself the hard way :Xo!). He mentioned aveeno moisturiser (A bit pricey). I think that's what he said anyway.

Hope that helps for those with sensitivity issues.
