Airports

• I was wondering which airports are cool and which ones just suck?
  
  I recently flew for the first time and now that my company knows that I'll do it and that I liked it I have a feeling that I'm going to be flying alot more from now on.
  
  So far I liked Tampa and the bar in Atlanta that you coan have a beer and a smoke while your stuck there for 2 1/2 hours

• The worst airport I have ever been in, and i havent been in a ton of them, but Miami.  After you go thru security, there is nothing there ..nothing at all except for a few small unknown restaurants.  Chinese breakfast is just not on the top of my list right now.  So we headed next door to some italian restaurant whowas serving breakfast, that was nasty.  So back to the chinese place and we wished we had taken the italian.  LOL
    The best so far for me has been Nashville.

• MCaran in Vegas has slot machines everywhere if you're into that.
  
  Atlanta is nice.  Lots to do. Bookstores, shops, restaurants, people watching, etc....
  
  Milwaukee is a little boring.  Not a whole lot.
  
  Midway in Chicago seemed OK when we were there.

• Port de Paix Haiti airport is nice..they have gravel and pothole run ways.  What else I like about it is, I hate sitting in terminals, well they dont have a terminal....indoors that is.  You sit on blocks outside in the open air garden.  LOL

• Newark is crap. the airport here in Richmond, Va isnt bad. its not a major hub, but its big enough that it has international flights. Charlotte, NC was really nice too. (go to the Stock Car Cafe and get the BBQ    )

• I've only flown a couple of times, to Florida. The Youngstown-Warren Airport is nice, never crowded, and 5 miles from my house. They have one airline. It has one destination-Orlando. Two commercial flights each week-Tuesday and Friday, so we have to plan our stay around those days, and rent a car in Orlando and drive to our destination. But the cost last spring was $58 each way.
  
  It has the longest runway in Ohio (for those two weekly flights) and there is a Air Force Reserve base at the other end of the runway.

  I agree that Miami airport is a hole.  I was not impressed. I did eat at a Burger King inside of the airport.  That was the only option that looked attractive.  I'm not surprised to see BK at that airport as their headquarters are there.
  
  The airport that I thought was cool was George Bush International in Houston.  Very pleasant and modern.  Several areas with moving sidewalks.  It also has a shopping mall kind of feel.
  
  I also have to give kudos to Seattle-Tacoma International.  They have a cool food court area that looks like it should be at a mall.  There is a big floor to ceiling window looking out at the runway!

• I like the Sea-Tac as far as big airports go.  I prefer the small Montana airports where there are only 3 or 4 gates.  And better yet, no gates and no security, but you have to put gas in the plane and fly it.

• LAX is the worst I've been to (it was two years ago).  I got there almost 2 hours before my domestic flight, and they had to bump us to the front of the security line so we didn't miss our flight.  The airport wasn't setup for the current security checks, so the lines ran all over the place.  The check-in area as a disaster.  You couldn't tell which line was for the counters and which was for security.  Totally disorganized.  Confused people everywhere.
  
  Monroe, Louisiana is a nice airport.  Only two gates (they don't even bother telling you which one to use since it's obvious).  Never any lines.
  
  Port au Prince, Haiti is an interesting experience.  Just make sure you hurry and get your bags before someone else does.
  
  I've flown to dozens of airports, and LAX is by far the worst experience in my opinion.
  
  I had a layover at Detroit once.  A friend wanted to get a map from the visitors' booth.  We were told it was not outside the secure area... wrong.  So there we were, no ID, no tickets.  We begged the ticket counter agent for help.  They printed new tickets after asking us a bunch of questions (I'm sure it was a big no-no).  We almost missed the flight (and made the rest of the folks in our group really mad).

• I'd have to agree on LAX. Unfortunately, I have to fly into there in two weeks for business, but thankfully I'm not checking luggage, and I'm just getting a cab into downtown LA. Other airports that blow chunks include San Francisco, DFW, and Seattle (at least my experiences).
  
  Ones that I like include Burbank (1st choice if you have to fly into LA), Oakland, Sacramento, and Phoenix.

• Get over to Scotland and visit Glasgow Prestwick International. Its tiny but superb and is the only place in the UK that Elvis visited when he touched down on a US Forces flight. Check it out at www.gpia.co.uk.
  
  Worst - tossup between New York Newark or Toronto. Flying home from Boston when I visit the States next year, so we will see what it is like.
