Brown Baggin
« on: November 19, 2008, 05:11:51 PM »
Hey Bros..Need some advise or suggestions. In my job I am on the road constantly during the day and often am not near a restaurant. Also by nature of my job, pest control route, I usually don't have time to stop anyway. So I pack a lunch with a couple of ham sandwiches and cold drinks and eat between stops. But man I am TIRED of ham sandwiches. I need to eat some items that are more healthy yet convenient and can grab and go. Do any of you brown bag? If so what do you take?

Our country demands all our strength, all our energies. To resist the powerful combination now forming against us will require every man at his place. If victorious we will have everything to hope for in the future. If defeated, nothing will be left for us to live for.

I might take any of these:
Toast and a big bowl of hummus [not store bought hummus, my recipe is a hundred times better]
Wraps are VERY convenient and very easy to eat while driving, take a tortilla, stuff some salad fixings, meat, cheese and your ready to "roll"
Chopped vegetables, apples, pears
Rice crispie snacks
Protein bars
Protein shake
Litre of water

Instead of ham you could mix it up with your meats and breads, turkey on rye, chicken on sourdough etc

**get you one of those thermos's and put some soup in it.

**pack you some cheese, crackers and bologna....i know it is still bologna but eating it on crackers gives it a little extra twist.

**grab some sliced turkey, sliced ham,  ready cooked bacon, lettuce and tomato put in seperate zip lock baggy. In another baggy put your bread.  When ready to eat assemble sandwich , add some mayo and makes a fairly good club sandwich

**I even like a good ol peanut butter and jelly.  To keep the bread from gettin soggy just put the jelly and peanutbutter in their own little seperat containers...Oh..Make sureyou smash some pringles chips in the middle of the sandwich though..just layer them single covering the whole sandwhich then smash the top on.  Its good.

** make a nice chef salad, add some eggs, chicken, bacon, ham cheese tomatoes...just anything..before you eat...add yoru favorite dressing

** cold taco salad is good.  The night before if you had taco's save the meat filling.  In the morning mix the meat with tomatoes lettuce cheese and onions.  Take a zip loc baggy of tortilla chips in a larger bag.  When you are ready to eat..just crush the chips a little...dump in the meat mixture and top with taco sauce.

Hope that helps you perk up your lunch time menu.  Good Luck

Wrap a couple pieces of chicken (I'm talking pre-cooked leftovers here) in aluminum foil and set the packet on the engine at about 10:30.  After about an hour and a half of driving, the chicken should be nicely warmed up for lunch.  Pizza also works well, but takes less time to heat up.

Star Kist makes a prepackaged lunch of tuna salad and crackers that is OK, but not as good as home made.  If you do tuna salad or chicken salad, do it only in cool weather, because it can spoil in a couple hours in the summer.

There's always good ol' PB&J.  You could also do salami and cheese or a turkey sandwich.

I also like to pack a salad with some garlic bread.  Make the bread the night before.

I work for ASDA (thats British WAL-Mart) and we have subsidised colleague canteen so I eat too much at work. I need to be eating ham sandwiches instead of bread rolls with sausage and black pudding in.

Cheers

I use to brown bag it at my last job.

I would usually take leftovers to change things up a bit.  Because like you said the same old lunch meat can get boring.

Another thing that can help change things up is taking small microwavable dinners.  Don't know if you have a microwave at work or not.  But they sell a large variety of quick meals in that section.

Raw veggies -- cauliflower, brocolli, carrots -- with reduced fat ranch dressing is a great substitute for chips if you have a way to keep it cool.  If you cut up the cauliflower and brocolli at the beginning of the week, it is quick and easy to drop in a baggie throughout the week.  Get yourself some small Rubbermaid containers for the dressing.
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

I usually eat 1 or 2 PB&Js (sometimes i get a little eager for lunch), some broccoli, and some raisins.  That is unless I get talked into hitting up the dollar menu at Wendy's.
