What does this scar mean ?

I work with a guy who is sly...super nice guy.
He looks good sly and all but I noticed he has about a foot long scar running across the back of his head, down towards the neck. Its not like punchmarks or anything...just a deep scar.  What do you guys think thats from  ?
Like a flap surgery or something ?

Because of where it is, could be down to a loada things.  Ask.  I have a scar on my nose, you can't really tell from that pic too well but I usually get people ask now and again &  it's cool.  Depending on who they are I might be abit cautious as the cause of it isn't particularly nice but hope it's noting like that for the man your mentioning.

Anywho regardless of whether the guys bbc or not it's sound good that he can carry on in being himself with it. That says alot.

Boy, the scar could be from any number of things. I agree with shaf, I think you should just ask him, I'm sure he wouldn't mind telling you....

I worked with a man who had a scar on the back of this head.  I asked and he got a little miffed.  My suggestion, let it be.  The man has had a event in his life and is living with it.  Hurray for him!!!!

Yeah I hear ya man. No way would I ask him about this....I wouldnt want someone asking me. I would guess its some type of hair surgery type of thing but I am only guessing.

You could just say, "Hey man... cool scar!  I got one on my __________ from _________.

and then maybe he will tell you what event gave him his scar.

It could be brain surgery.  I love talking to people who have had brain surgery.  You have to be awake for it, and they poke around and things stop working for a while, so there is always something interesting to learn about how the brain works. 

But it is difficult to pull off asking about it unless you can sincerely be enthusiastic while listening to his brain surgery stories.  I used to work in a neurology lab, so for me, it's easy. 

And even though it is 2008, some brain diseases--even ones that can be cured through surgery--have more stigma than others that someone might not want to talk about in the workplace.

YES...I knew a guy back in '89 before and after he got brain surgery and his stitches went from the middle of the back of his head down to the bottom of the back of his neck.   BRUTAL

Actually, the guy with the fresh scar who prompted a conversation was at a friend's wedding. 

But there are many reasons besides scars that people end up telling me about their brain surgery.  (Not proud, just sayin'.)

As I've stated here once too often (LOL); I have two scars from my hair tranplants in the front. They have faded over time thank God. But there's always 1 idiot who asks me if I've been in a car accident. My answer is always no and continue on. But it is totally annoying. My point: let it go. Sopunds like brain surgery for the guy with the 12 inch scar.

Interesting.  I saw a guy a few weeks ago who had just such a scar.  Funny thing is, he was clearly BBC, and could have easily hidden the scar by growing his hair out only 1/2" (13 mm.).  Yet he apparently was comfortable with the clipper-shaved look and the scar clearly showing.  Now THAT, my friends, is confidence!!!
