P90X
« on: November 03, 2008, 09:20:42 PM »
Is anybody using this? I just started, and it is INTENSE! About half-way through each video, I think "I cannot wait until this is over." But it feels so rewarding once you're finished. Well, rewarding mixed with the feeling that you're about to die.

I'm on day three, and I can barely move I'm so sore, but it is so worth it.

It's basically the workout DVD to end all workout DVDs. It's just constantly pushing you and it's basically like having a personal trainer. It's not easy, and I'm sore as hell, but I'm loving it so far.

Tomorrow is Yoga, so hopefully, that's a nice break and will help ease my sore-ness, but with these DVDs, who the hell knows?

Seen it advertised and pondered the purchase. How long do you work out each day?

I have all the videos for this, I've browsed them but I don't have the time right now. The system is based around muscle confusion, I've incorporated some of it into my own workouts and it is effing intense.

At least an hour, sometimes two.

It's certainly a cheap option as opposed to a gym membership or a trainer, especially considering that I downloaded it illegally.  :-X

P90X is great if you can handle it.  I was going to order it--I took their fitness test and qualified but I wasnt ready to commit to working out 6 days a week for 1-2 hours.  So I ordered Power 90 which is like P90X lite but still pretty damn hard IMO.
Your workouts are 6 days a week and 45 minutes a day.  I can tell you that I used to work out with weights 3-4 times a week and played some type of sport at least once a week and this is still really hard to me.
The thing is its constant....constant weight lifting sets with little to no breaks. same with the yoga/cardio portion...its constant.  this has been the hardest thing for me to handle as I am used to some type of rest in between sets. If you are overweight or out of shape dont waste your money on P90X...it will be too much for you. Start with P90...its half the price and still very hard.

Yeah, the thing is that I'm not overweight at all. I'm underweight if anything. So, I got P90X because I figure it's probably the best for me to stay the same size but get tone and build some muscle to actually gain weight.

It's intense, but it does feel good after you're done.

... and then unable to move between workouts...

I hear you bro. Im not overweight myself but a lot of people looking to get into fitness are and probably the most discouraging thing about starting new workout programs is they are too hard too fast...which is why power 90 may be a good ramp up for some. Good for you that you can handle the p90x workouts...I never tried them but I am sure they kick your butt just like the power 90's.

YEP!!! I'm prolly 50lbs overweight....so I started with P90.  Definitely plan on moving to P90X after the New Year.

Tomorrow (Monday, 11/10) will be Day #8 for me.  I wanna lose at least 50 lbs.  I've said that before around here and have made some gains/losses but fizzled out.

Now that I found out I have Diabetes, it's either lose the weight or be on a plethora of meds, man.

I'm stoked now....doing the whole online "Team Beachbody" thing with all the tracking programs and what not.   Just gotta keep "pushing play"!!!

Does the Power 90 have plyometrics?

That's the only one so far that feels like way too much for me. It hurt to walk for like three days, and I was pretty sure I was going to die afterwards.

However, on a good note, I did smoke a lot less that day. After that workout, the last thing I wanted was a cigarette.

Im only on day 5 of the workout so I am not sure if they incorporate boxes to jump on and stuff but they do have some stuff where you do some jumping back and forth to different spots on the floor so it is very "plyometricky"
I try to go as hard as I can with these so I definitely get sore.

be careful working out on sore muscles.  Ideally--you shouldn't.  Working out 6 days a week is a BAD way to build muscle--you'll overtrain yourself and end up LOSING muscle mass, or just burning out on working out in general (or both?).  If you want to BUILD muscle, you need to eat a lot and sleep a lot.  Muscles are built in the kitchen and in bed, not by working out 6 days a week.  If you're trying to BUILD muscle, you should really only workout 3x a week, and you should definitely switch up muscle groups.

stronglifts.com guys.  If you can't squat 1.5x your body weight at LEAST this should be your bible.  Love it. Live it.

With this program, you don't work the sore muscles. It switches things up so much. The only muscles you work more than once a week are abs 3x a week and back twice a week.

Yeah....the program alternates not only between cardio and muscle groups....but alternates between muscle groups.

The so yer building muscle (more, scientifically, "tearing down" muscle) 3 times per week.
