SERIOUS QUESTION HERE....
« on: October 29, 2008, 08:46:20 PM »
My wife just came up from the laundry room.  She looks at me and says...Tim...something happened in the washing machine and dryer.  I had the look of OH sh*t what happened.  When we were going thru security in Miami and thru customs..I had stuck my passport in my side pocket on my shorts.  Well I forgot to take it out.  SHE WASHED IT.  Now it is all curled up and just a mess.  The picture and the info page didnt get messed up or anything...so is my passport still good or am I gonna have to renew it?  I just got it last year...

The RFID in your passport is probably still good, so it should check as legit.

You would probably be better off getting a replacement.

That's the opportunity to get a new passport with a new sly pic.

TimmJ,
I had the exact same thing happen ... after 4 years of travel in Asia. My suggestion is to photocopy any cool VISA stamps, because you have to turn it in to get a replacement. I sent mine in without doing that and lost all of those "souvenirs."
Peace,

Thanks Padre...I thought of that already.  I had a passport before this one which took me all over Europe.  Well it expired and it was lost.  Kinda sucks...even though something as simple as a stamp.  It keeps the memories alive though.

When I renewed my passport they voided the old one and sent it back to me.

I'm sure you aren' the only one who has washed (or otherwise damaged) a passport.  I'm sure there is a procedure to send it back for a new one.  You might not have to go through the whole renewing process.

I would get a new one.  You never know how picky customs may get in various countries around the world.  With the damage they may think it has been tampered with.
