OK, so for the past three weeks or so my left foot has been really painful. I mean "can't walk on it" painful at times. It actually started out with both feet, but the right foot seems to have righted itself.
So this morning I see my doctor who diagnosed plantar fasciitus (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plantar_fasciitis) due to fallen arches. Ouch.
His recommendations:
- Wear good boots or shoes (obviously not an issue for me)
- Wear arch supports
- Stretching exercies
- Massage the area by rolling a frozen golf ball around with my foot
As strange as the golf ball suggestion sounds, it really feels good.
P.S. His nurse was grooving on my shaved head -- she said she needs to talk her hubby into it. She also likes the way I dress. Obviously a woman with taste!
There's a bit of bad news followed by some good news. I'm actually going to have to implement that routine as I might be developing that.
If you have foot pain that is at its worst when you first start using the foot after a period of inactivity (or first thing in the morning), and that abates as you use the foot, it's almost certainly fasciitis.
It's important to treat it as it can become chronic if left untreated.
(I'm rolling a frozen golf ball around as I write this. I'm using a SpongeBob golf ball, but I don't think that's a necessity.)
Yep, my feet always hurt in the morning. Time to freeze a golf ball, though I don't think I'll be using a SpongeBob ball.
