Just buzz it zero or no guard.  It won't be that much different than a one, and I bet people will hardly notice.  Then you can hit the razor when you feel comfortable.  You're less likely to get any comments since people already know you as being nearly bald anyway.

Any besides, who cares what people think?  Even the guys who just go from having lots of hair to none rarely regret it, especially with MPB.

Going totally sly will make the MPB less noticeable.

Welcome!

From another Seattle native to another, welcome Nick.
Glad to have you here, and looking forward to your input.  I can only repeat what the other guys have said, and I KNOW you will look great with the sly look.  You will seriously wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
My fiance's brother is a junior at Wazzu, you may know him.  I'll PM you with his name.
Take care.

Hey Nick, welcome to SBG's. Glad you decided to join us.

I echo what all the bro's have said, all good advice.

Why wait?, just go for it. From a 0 buzz it's nothing. Get yourself a good razor if you don't have one already. Mach III is one of the best, it's what I used for my first scrape down.

You will love it, and then wish you had done it sooner.    O:O

You're almost there already.  I doubt you'll get much of a reaction from people you know, but the feeling you will experience will be incredible.  No time like the present, dude, just do it!
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

Nick, first of all welcome!  Secondly, I have to agree with RazorX - why not shave it all the way now that you're in college.  Sure you might take some ribbing about it at first but you will likely get more positive reactions than negative.  If you wait until after you graduate, you might be more likely to have apprehension thinking that you won't be able to find a job - which is ridiculous as well.  We're here for ya and many of us had the same thinning you're talking about.  It really won't be that big of a deal.  Keep us posted and welcome again.
