Can't believe I did this.I never imagined I would be looking into this but I did.I had a consultation today at a local clinic that does laser hair removal and a bunch of other treatments, like botox injections, cool sculpting, etc. The consultation was with a doctor then a specialist who does the actual treatments. The doc looked at my head for like 1 minute and asked me a bunch of questions. The #1 important question was about hair color and any medical conditions. How/when I starting going bald. He said I was typical advanced MPB. (Tell me something I don't know.)I have/had medium brown hair so I'm a good candidate— not excellent—for hair removal. The lighter the hair color the less effective the treatment. Red hair: forget-about-it. He also said I should start before any more gray, of which I have a little.Bottom line: cost between $1500 to $2000 USD. 9 treatments of the remaining hair (sides and back, none top). Each treatment 6 weeks apart. Booked until Jan 2019.Each treatment will produce redness and soreness the day of the treatment. Most guys handle with Advil and a topical treatment only. Infection and scabbing is rare although monitored closely. It's a big clinic in a rich of my town, Philly Main Line, and they've done dozens of men's heads. 80% success rate where the patient is satisfied with little to NO regrowth. in 20% cases, maintenance treatments are needed at additional cost. When I made the appt. I didn't say it was for my head but as soon as they saw me the assistant said, 'you're tired of shaving the shadow.' I also told her I had no interest in loosing hair in other areas of my body, chest, etc. She said it's growing in popularity for guys like me, all ages. (I hope that wasn't just pressure to sell me.)They also offered me contact(s) of 2 other dudes who had the same thing done and are wiling to share their story. Apparently, those guys loved the results and got a discount for telling their story for perspective patients like me. They had pictures and the guys both looked young, late 20s and 30s. So, that made me feel good. So, WTF do I do? I can swing the money. But I'm afraid of the temporary side-effects of the sessions. And 9 sessions seems like a LOT. That could take all of 2019 before completion. That takes a lot of effort and time.I just got done shaving my ring tonight and I'm good for a few days before I need it again. Honestly, it was a pain in the ass more than ever. I was imagining a smooth head with no regrown or shadow for life. Damn, that would be amazing. When I was in college, I was freaking out while loosing hair, and if someone would have told me one day I'll use a laser to rid myself of all of it, I would have said that's f'ing nuts. Yet, here a am giving it serious consideration. Go figure.Thoughts?Get rid of the donut haha 😎 Donut, too kind! I was dating a chick that called it the toilet seat!

It came off fast once I got to proper hot water and a fresh Gillette.
Nine sessions may sound like a lot but remember at any given time a certain amount of your hair is in the resting phase. The laser only removes what’s actively growing so you need to have several sessions over an extended period of time in order to get it all.Afrtr nine sessions, most of your hair will probably be gone, but it is difficult to remove 100% of it so they will probably try to talk you into some touch-up sessions. At that post you may be satisfied with the greatly reduced amount of hair. Probably won’t need to shave as frequently so you may decide to stop at that point.
Bear in mind that your shadow will become less visible as your hair gets greyer.

At 3 days, depending on lighting, the white hairs become visible. It looks like white specs with bright lights.

If you go through with the lasering, I'd start as soon as possible before your hair gets too gray and the lasering may not be as effective. FWIW, I went the reverse route and had a scalp tattoo to blend with my shadow.
Quote from: gwsmallwood on November 06, 2018, 10:19:01 AMI won't lie, it hurts. But only for a few minutes, and then it's a bit sore for a couple of days. The pros far outweighed the cons for me. No more severe folliculitis issues, which means no more antibiotics. I can get by with a single pass with the grain shave 2 or 3 times a week. I used to have to shave 3 passes every other day, and my head still wasn't as clean shaven as it gets now. The elimination of the shadow was a bonus. I would never have gotten laser just for that reason, though I know others have.wow. interesting. how much natural hair loss did you have to start? Norwood what?
